Thieves smash into vehicles outside Atom hockey tournament
Digby’s top cop is disappointed that thieves were able to successfully break into two vehicles parked in broad daylight last weekend outside the Digby Area Arena.
Both vehicles were sports utility vehicles, said Staff-Sgt. Phil Barrett, and had items left where passersby could spot them. Inside the rink an Atom hockey tournament was being staged.
“I am disappointed,” he added. “It was a relatively busy place. It was bright, broad daylight.”
One owner reports her purse was taken with her credit cards, one of which was soon used to purchase gasoline at the Irving gas station near the highway. The thief or thieves smashed a side window to gain entry.
“Unfortunately, SUVs don’t have trunks where you can put your valuables out of sight,” Barrett said. “People should cover them up so people walking past don’t see them.”
