Hantsport maps out town future
Hantsport Town Council has decided to compile the funds needed to improve future strategy planning for the area by investing in some mapping updates.
A company is being hired to draw up designs of the town to the tune of roughly $10,000 for the maps and $9,000 for a new sustainability plan.
This is another step council is taking to move the development of the town forward, Mayor Wayne Folker said. “We always want to know what we’re doing in the future.”
Battery recycling program begins
The Town of Hantsport is being proactive in the proper disposal of old batteries.
Hantsport Home Hardware is now a location where residents can go, at any time during store hours, to drop off used household batteries, including those used in hearing aids.
“Most people usually put dead batteries in the garbage and don’t realize it’s not really where they’re supposed to go, but now people can collect them in a bag and get rid of them properly,” Councillor Margot Bureaux said. “Anything that can save us from unnecessary waste is important.”
All proceeds from the recycling drop-off in Hantsport will go toward a tourism project to build a new walking trial in the area.
