December 30, 2007 to January 5, 2008 continued Harrison, Muriel - 95, Liverpool, passed away January 2, 2008 in Queens General Hospital. Born in Much Hoole, Lancashire the daughter of Obadiah and Isabella Heaton, she loved music. She taught herself to play the piano and started lessons on the pipe organ when she was 60. After the death of her husband in 1978 she made many trips across the Atlantic to visit her son Geoffrey and her daughter Marjorie and their families in North America. In 1985 she left the home in which she had lived since she was born and moved to Liverpool, Nova Scotia. Muriel sewed her own clothes by hand, and in recent years she took up watercolour painting. She was a member of Zion United Church. She is survived by son, Geoffrey (Beppie), Troy, Michigan and daughter, Marjorie Speed Powell, (Luke), Liverpool, NS; grandchildren: Martha, Mali (Chris), Marianna, James and Alexander; four great grand children. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers' Funeral Home, Liverpool. A memorial service was held at Zion United Church, Liverpool, Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008. December 30, 2007 to January 5, 2008 continued Lucas Andrew O’Hara – 17, of Lakewood Road, Kentville, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2008 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, as the result of an accident. Born in Kentville, he was a son of Dwayne Dill, Calgary, Alberta and Angela O’Hara, Lakeville, Kings County. He resided with his paternal grandmother and guardian, Nancy Haggerty (Terry Clarke), Lakewood Road. Luke was a Grade 11 student at Northeast Kings Education Centre, Canning and enjoyed playing games, listening to music and especially enjoyed spending time with his many friends. He is also survived by two brothers, Dwayne “D.J.” O’Hara, Calgary and Jacob Keddy, Blue Mountain; two sisters, Lacey O’Hara, Lakeville and Samantha Dill, Halifax; paternal grandfather, Arnold Dill (Leah Hiscock), Canning; maternal grandparents, Irene and John Evered, Waterville; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Downey O’Hara and his step grandfather, Rae Haggerty. Visitation was held from 4-5 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2008, Reverend Marc Potvin officiated. Burial took place in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville. Family flowers only, by request. December 30, 2007 to January 5, 2008 continued Dubinsky, William Ean - It is with great sadness that Annette Dubinsky announces the sudden passing of her son, William Ean Dubinsky of Halifax, formerly of Yarmouth, on Wednesday, January 2, 2008. William was born in Ottawa, Ontario to Annette Dubinsky and the late Leonard Dubinsky on February 6th, 1964. He was well known in the town of Yarmouth as a merchant and academic researcher. He was successful in graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Carleton University and later completed a Master of Arts in Political Science with honors also from Carleton University. During his studies, he undertook extensive research in the Atlantic Fisheries and published numerous articles on maritime fishery-related matters in a number of Canadian publications. He also completed his Bachelor of Education from Memorial University in St. John's Newfoundland. Following this, he taught in Korea for a brief time and then studied in British Columbia. Upon the death of his father in 1996, William returned to Yarmouth where he assumed the management of his late father's business, Shorecrest Agencies that operated a wholesale souvenir business, as well as three retail stores. With the demise of the tourism industry in Yarmouth, William moved to Halifax where he was engaged in telemarketing and freelance writing. At the time of his death, he was getting recognized as a literary reviewer and author. William's funeral was held on Sunday, January 6th, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Sweeny's Funeral Home in Yarmouth, Rabbi David Ellis officiated. Internment followed in the Jewish portion of Mountain Cemetery. There was no visitation and no flowers at the request of the family. December 30, 2007 to January 5, 2008 continued Darrell Blaine Walker – 60, of Canaan, Kings County, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late Ernest “Ernie” and Edith “Rennie” (Eisenhauer) Walker. He was a proud 40-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local No. 625. Darrell was also presently serving as vice-president of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, the former Marilyn Crosby; two sons, Blaine (Natalie Theriault), Dartmouth; Cory (Shelly Martin), Windsor; daughter, Angela “Toots” (Bruce Jollimore), Dartmouth; a sister, Linda (Doug) Fredericks, Windsor; a brother-in-law, Eugene (Elizabeth) Crosby, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Brendan, Madison, Matthew and Sean; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Harold; brother-in-law, Michael Crosby. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2008, Father Gerald Saulnier officiated. (Wagstaff) OConnell – 78, of Plymouth,U.S.A. formerly of Hanson, died Sunday, December 30, 2007 in Wingate Home at Silver Lake in Kingston. Daughter of the late Frederick and Nora (Cashman) Wagstaff, she was born in Harbourville, Nova Scotia on November 28, 1929. She was raised and educated in Nova Scotia and had lived in Boston, Dorchester and Hanson before moving to Plymouth in 1985. Mrs. OConnell was formerly employed as a Housekeeper and Sacristan at St. Joseph the Worker Church for 25 years. She was a member of the Ladies Sodality and an avid Red Sox Fan. Wife of the late Alfred J. OConnell, she is survived by 2 sons, Daniel Kevin OConnell and Alfred Kerry OConnell, both of Plymouth, 2 sisters, Lena McLean of Berwick, N.S. and Charlotte Keddy of Aylesford, N.S. 1 grand- daughter, Ashley OConnell and many nieces and nephews. Brothers Howard, Lawrence, Kenneth and Harry and sister, Margaret predeceased her. Funeral Mass was on Thursday January 3rd at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph the Worker Church. Born March 22, 1936, in North Range, Digby Co., she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Cornelius and Mary Viola (Melanson) MacLeod. Jean is survived by her husband of 53 years, Clifford Earle; daughter, Mary (John) Woodworth, Windsor; sons, Gerald “Gerry” (Karen), Ellershouse; Michael, at home; grandson, Troy (Brandy) Wells, Cameron Lake; great-grandchildren, Nakia and Hayden, Cameron Lake; sisters, Ruby (Norman) Blanchard, Ardoise; Audrey MacDougall, New Minas; Dianna (Robert) Lavers, Garlands Crossing; also many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her sister, Elva Crossley; brothers, Edward “Johnny”, Lloyd “Snowball”, and Leslie in infancy. Born in Charleston, she was the daughter of the late John and Cecilia (Croft) Jones. She was predeceased by her husband Paul; sisters: Mabel, Nellie, Agatha, Leameth and Cecilia; brothers, Patrick and Charles.
