Staff at Acadian Wipers in Marshalltown extinguished a small rubbish fire Friday morning, Dec. 21 after three fire trucks and three RCMP officers arrived.

The RCMP received a phone complaint about the fire just after 10 a.m. and called in the Digby Fire Department.

The fire, in a gravel pit behind the Acadian Wipers buildings, was billowing black noxious smoke but not otherwise a danger.

Fire chief Robert Morgan suggested the fire be extinguished as a courtesy to neighbours downwind.

Management at the plant readily agreed to that. The fire, they said, was supposed to contain only wood but a communication mix up led to other items being added to the fire.
