Conditions imposed on Amero's freedom
A Marshalltown man with a history of violent crimes is scheduled to appear in court in Kentville Jan. 14 for a peace bond hearing, just a month after finishing his sentence in the federal prison at Renous, N.B.
Jeffrey Edward Amero was freed from the maximum-security prison early Dec. 14, but was immediately taken into custody by two RCMP officers from Digby who delivered him to a Halifax court where strict conditions were imposed on his freedom.
The 48-year-old Amero had completed his prison term but threats he made previously towards justice officials and an RCMP officer resulted Friday in a number of conditions being imposed by Judge Bill Digby.
Amero has been ordered him not to contact Crown attorney Rosalind Michie or her family, Provincial Court Judge Jean-Louis Batiot or his family, and RCMP Cpl. Chris Thibedeau.
It is the Crown prosecutor’s office that is applying for the peace bond Jan. 14.
Staff-Sgt. Phil Barrett acknowledged Saturday that Amero has returned to Marshalltown, and that he expects to be informed of any change in address, one of the court’s conditions.
Amero was released from prison in mid-April after serving a sentence for uttering threats, criminal harassment and failing to comply with probation orders. It was his fifth prison sentence.
He was arrested soon after his return to Digby County and had his parole revoked.
On Sept. 20, he was released again and sent to live at a halfway house in Saint John, N.B., but set off a police search when went missing from that facility. He was arrested Sept. 30 at a home in Marshalltown.
