November 25, 2007 to December 1, 2007 continued HAZEL, Laura Elizabeth, age 74, of Windsor, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 30, 2007, at the Halifax Infirmary, Q.E. II, Halifax. Born on August 5, 1933, in Walton, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she is the daughter of the late Grant and Ethel (Reynolds) Fowler, of Windsor. Laura graduated from the Windsor Academy in 1950, Windsor School of Business in 1951, then working many years as a legal secretary in both Nova Scotia and Massachusetts. In later years, she operated a home bookkeeping service in Windsor. Laura was a supporter of many local charities, a life long caregiver of elderly friends and relatives, and a long time member of the UCW. A devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, Laura enjoyed family vacations, winters in Florida and enjoyed many years of dancing with her husband, Laurie. Surviving is her husband of 55 years, Laurie; son, Greg (Elaine), Clearwater, Fl.; daughters, Andrea (Eric) Sanders, Shrewsbury, Ma.; Dorothy, Bradenton, Fl.; grandchildren, Michele, Eric, Jamie, Gwendolyn, Erica and Ross; step-grandchildren, Jason, Nick, Eric and Michele; great grandchildren, Michael and Jason; sister, Dorene (Roland) Arbour, Ottawa, Ontario; sisters-in-law, Frances Fowler, Dartmouth; Janet (Lawrence) Boyd, Tonge Hill; brother-in-law, Clarie (Donna) Hazel, Scotch Village; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Grant and Ethel (Reynolds) Fowler, she was predeceased by her brother, Bud Fowler; and by a sister-in-law, Shirley Hunter. There was no visitation at Laura’s request. A memorial service was held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2007, in the Windsor United Church, 613 King Street, Windsor. The Rev. Bill Gibson officiated, followed by a reception in the Windsor United Church Annex. Interment will be held at Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor, at a later date. No flowers by request. Donations in memory of Laura were requested to be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Lung Association of Nova Scotia. November 25, 2007 to December 1, 2007 continued BOUDREAU, Richard Vincent "Rick" - 61, Yarmouth, passed away November 29, 2007, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, with his family by his side. Born in Yarmouth, he was a son of Genevieve (Boudreau) Purdy, Kellys Cove, and stepson of the late Keith Purdy. He was a carpenter by trade, an avid golfer and former club champion and he was a long-time employee at Yarmouth Links, which was his second home. Rick was also an avid hunter, bingo player and local hockey fan. He loved his dogs, Shelby and Charlie. Rick was a loving husband, father and papa. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 32 years, Darla (Gavel); daughter, Ronda Boudreau, Yarmouth; son, Derek (Francine), South Ohio; brothers, Robert Purdy, Kellys Cove; Vernon (Wendy) Penney, Yarmouth; Wayne (Susie) Purdy, Edmonton; sisters, Gwen (Paul), Lake Rockville; Penny (Dan) MacFadyen, Alberta; grandchildren, Devan and Dustin Boudreau, both of Yarmouth; Sam Theriault, South Ohio; great-grandson, Dawson Cormier, Yarmouth; mother and father-in-law, Donald and Marion Gavel, Yarmouth; aunts and uncles, who Rick thought of as brothers and sisters, Liz (Lawrence) Cottreau, Yarmouth; Lorraine (William) Durkee, South Ohio; Venice Hilchie, Dartmouth; Catherine Hilchie, Dartmouth; Vincent (Pearl), Ontario; Harvey (June), Ontario; Robert (Bernice), Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law. Visitation was held Sunday, December 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. The funeral was Monday, December 3 at 2 p.m. in Beacon United Church, Rev. November 25, 2007 to December 1, 2007 continued Kenneth Leslie Sweeney - 62, Viewmount, Kings Co. passed away Thursday November 29, 2007, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QE II. Born in Berwick, Kings Co. he was the youngest son of the late Frederick C. and Genevieve L. (Howell) Sweeney. Ken had worked for H.B. Morse for 30 years, and had worked as a truck driver for Sawlers Gardens Ltd. for the past eight years. Ken was an avid supporter of the Burlington Community Club, where he enjoyed playing darts. He loved and will be missed by his little dog, “Spike”. Surviving are his loving wife of 38 years, Mary “Linda” (Shiels) Sweeney; son, Timothy (& his wife, Carola) Sweeney, Halifax; brother, Ronald (Gloria) Sweeney, Berwick; sisters, Marion (Myles) Balsor, Port George; Hilda (Morris, deceased) Ruggles, Perry Sound, Ont.; Helen (Fred, deceased) Wagstaff, Aylesford; Beatrice (Alan, deceased) Whittier, Somerset; sister-in-law, Phyllis (Robert, deceased) Sweeney, Berwick; brothers-in-law, Colin (Marie Pineo) MacDonald, Lakeville; Lorimer (Shirley, deceased) Clem, Viewmount; numerous nieces & nephews; father & mother-in-law, Harold & Ruth Shiels, Belleville, Ont. Born in Glace Bay, NS, she was a daughter of the late James and Sadie (Ferguson) Peters as well as her step-mother Jane (Gallant) Peters. Agnes was a former employee of Metropolitan Store in Liverpool. She loved animals especially dogs and cats and was an avid bingo player and card player. She is survived by her daughters: Catherine MacEachern of Liverpool; Sharon (Bruce) Doggett of Winnipeg. Sons: Derhyk (Ann), Brooklyn; Gary "Alfie", Bedford; Robert (Charlotte), Brooklyn; Stephen (Diane), Charleston. Fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Sister: Louise (John) Stewart of Stanhope, PEI. Brother: Leo of Toronto. Born in Liverpool, he was a son of the late Fred and Jessie (Feener) Stafford. Dick was a mechanic by trade and was a former employee with STENPRO and Seaboard GM Diesel, Liverpool. He enjoyed being at the lake fishing as well as “tinkering” with small engines. He was also an honourary firefighter with Liverpool Fire Fighters Association. He is survived by his daughter Tammy (Robbins) Chymist of Red Deer, AB; Son Chris (Cindy) of Buckfield. Grandchildren: Kiel, Kelsey and Connor. Sisters: Grace (Jim) McAvoy, Halifax; Reta (Glenn) Joudrey of Windsor; Marjorie Pederson, Bridgewater. Brother Merrill (Elsie) of Bridgewater. He was predeceased by his wife Marilyn (Scobey); Sister Evelyn and Brother Arnold. November 25, 2007 to December 1, 2007 continued PEACH, Jean Elizabeth - 71, Falmouth, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Saturday, December 1, 2007 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late George and Bertha (MacKenzie) Hughes. Jean enjoyed playing crib and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch No. 009, Windsor. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband, George; sons, George Jr., Falmouth; Ross (Tanya), Kentville; daughters, Bertha (Mark) Meister, New Ross; Anne (Brian) Atwell, Hantsport; Vicki (Jamie) Juteau, Windsor; grandchildren, Ryan, Chad, and Blake Atwell, Logan Juteau and Crewe Bailey; brothers, Clarence (Lyse) Hughes, Elliott (Michelle) Hughes; many nieces and nephews. November 25, 2007 to December 1, 2007 continued BAIN, Harold Raymond “Bub” - 65, Wellington, Yarmouth Co., passed away December 1, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on January 25, 1942, in Wellington, he was a son of Lorraine VanHorne and stepfather William Lindsay, Wellington, and the late Raymond Percy Bain. Bub was a factory worker for 32 years in Ontario. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, fishing and playing pool. He was known for being a friend to all those he knew. Bub was loved by all and will be sadly missed, but always remembered in the hearts of those who knew him. He is survived by wife, Candy, Wellington; daughter, Lisa Bain (Eddie Doren), New Jersey; sons Mark Bain (Kim Comeau), Meteghan: Jason Bain (Trina), Wellington; brothers, Victor (Alice), Sambro; Ken (Joan), Hebron; Spencer (Sandra), Toronto; Kevin (Rose), Ontario; grandchildren, Jonathon, Jeffrey, Sydney, Shelby, and stepgranddaughter, Megan. November 25, 2007 to December 1, 2007 continued DOUCET, Juliette Margaret (Meuse) - 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at Dartmouth General Hospital in the arms of her family. Born on November 1, 1914 in Amirault's Hill, Yarmouth County, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Emilie Meuse. A homemaker and exceptional cook, she always had a houseful of neighborhood children free to play, romp, make messes and eat cookies. A former church organist from the age of fourteen, Juliette played at three Yarmouth area churches. She also worked as a professional cook for several private Halifax families as well as Dalhousie student residences before marrying Charles Doucet on Aug. 17, 1938. They moved their family to Sydney, NS and Royal Oak, Michigan, USA, before retiring in Yarmouth. One of Juliette's greatest joys was to play piano to a lively fiddle. She provided musical entertainment to countless house parties wherever she lived, often playing for seniors' residences, even when many in the audience were younger than herself. Her other great joy was to cook for the ones she loved. She moved once again to Dartmouth in order to be closer to her extensive family. Her eyes shone with delight during monthly family dinners at the antics of her great-grandchildren, and her arms were always ready with an embrace. Juliette is survived by her loving children Charles (Noel) and Paulette Phillips of Dartmouth; Warren (Louise) of Romeo, Michigan and Louis (Kathie) of Royal Oak, Michigan; son-in-law Frank Boyd of Davenport, Virginia. She is also survived by dear sisters Olivette Sudsburyof Sydney; Adelta Moulaison and Emeline Frotten of Yarmouth; and brother Eugene Meuse, also of Yarmouth; by cherished grandchildren Charles (Heather), Julianne (Stephen) MacLean, Julia (Brad) Smith, Michelle Phillips (Newt), Warren (Cheng), Marc, Stella (Mark) MacAuley and Lacey; and also by many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by beloved husband Charles; daughter Sheila Boyd; sisters Angeline Amirault, Isabelle Bourque and Celina Surette; brothers Daniel Meuse and Benedict Meuse; grandson Jon Lewis. The family wishes to thank Dr. Savvopoulus and the third floor nursing staff at Dartmouth General for the tender care given to Juliette in her last days. Cremation has taken place under the care of Cole Harbour Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will take place in Yarmouth this coming summer; further notification will follow.
