Town of Shelburne Mayor may ask the RCMP to initiate a forensic audit surrounding the sale of the former boy’s school, Shelburne Place by the South West Shore Development Authority (SWSDA).
Mayor Parker Comeau, directed by his council, has set up an emergency Team Shelburne meeting that will take place in Barrington Wednesday at 10:00 p.m.

He will then present to Team Shelburne his councils request that Team Shelburne meet with the Premier and the Minister of Economic Development to get answers.

“To straighten out this whole mess and get our money,” said Mayor Comeau. “If that fails and we are not happy then we want to initiate an RCMP investigation…looking at their fraud squad.”

Mayor Comeau stated that the province promised Team Shelburne the money and believes now they are going back on their promise.

Team Shelburne acquired the property from the government after the closure of the Boy’s School with two years of operating costs totaling $600,000.

“They said you can sell it and keep the money and now the story has changed,” said Mayor Comeau. “I can understand how one person can get it wrong but I don’t see how five elected officials could get it wrong and we are damn mad about it.”

During last weeks court Mayor Comeau explained that the judge told the court that once CFS Shelburne or Shelburne Park sells they’ll put the money in reserve for Team Shelburne but Comeau is not satisfied with that.

“Who is to say that it will sell or there is going to be enough money to pay off everything,” he asked, “so I don’t go for that and neither does my council.”

Mayor Comeau is unsure of where the operating and sale monies have gone but was perturbed to find out in court that the SWSDA did not have the money.

“We want our money and it shouldn’t have been spent if it was,” he said.
