Town council is considering taking over the heritage centre.
The Digby Sports Hall of Fame society asked council in September if they could take over the building on town land at the corner of Birch and Prince William, where the old train station used to be.
At the regular council meeting, Monday, Dec. 3, councillors voted to have the finance committee meet with sports hall of fame society.
Councillors suggested it would be nice to have the building open to allow access to the washrooms, showers and laundry facilities.
Councillors also would like to make the space available for meetings and other events.
The walls of the heritage centre are lined with the photographs of the athletes inducted into the Digby Sports Hall of Fame.
The hall of fame society has expressed in the past that they would like the photos to remain where they are.
Some of the town councillors said the photos might be a “distraction” to groups that might want to rent the facility. Some questioned why the photos couldn’t be displayed in one place with Digby’s other sports photos already on display at the arena.
Councillors voted unanimously to have the finance committee talk with the society.
