November 18, 2007 to November 24, 2007 continued Kay (Borysowich) Rogers – 88, of Greenwood, N.S. passed away peacefully in Soldiers Memorial Hospital on Nov. 20, 2007. Born in the Regional Municipality of Broken Head, MB, in 1919 she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Borysowich. She was predeceased by husband Cecil Thomas Rogers of Sioux Lookout, ON. Kay lived and worked in Sioux Lookout since 1950 and retired from her position with Ontario Home Support at age 75. She was an avid gardener and an active member of the Sacred Heart Parish. She also enjoyed various hobbies such as knitting, crocheting, tatting and sewing. She resided with family in Greenwood, NS from 2003 until her passing. She is survived by son, Thomas Cyril (Frances), Calgary, AB, daughter Karen Martin, Greenwood, NS, grandsons David (Sarah), Calgary, and Troy Martin, Toronto, ON, granddaughters Richelle (Russell) Gregg, Middle Sackville, NS, and Susan (Jay) St. Jules, Calgary and four great-grandchildren, Tony, Zoey, Kori and Paul of Calgary. She is also survived by brothers William, Beausejour, MB, Emil (May), Winnipeg, John (Anne), Beausejour and many nieces and nephews. Kay leaves behind many friends and family who loved her dearly and will miss her always. A memorial service will be held in Sioux Lookout at a later date. Special thanks are sent out to Dr. Yafai and the staff at Soldiers Memorial Hospital and the Transitional Care Unit in Middleton, NS.
November 18, 2007 to November 24, 2007 continued MANTHORNE, Elizabeth “Beth” Kathleen; passed away in Halifax on November 21, 2007. Born in Mill Village, she was the daughter of the late W. Allister and Gertrude (Forbes) Manthorne. Beth was the last surviving member of her immediate family. After losing her parents at an early age, she was taken in and cared for by her aunts Nan and Addie. For several years she attended private school in Bermuda and, upon her return to Nova Scotia, she attended and graduated from Provincial Normal College in Truro and Mount Saint Vincent University. Beth was a retired school teacher who spent the majority of her teaching years in the Halifax City School system, mainly in the LeMarchant Street School and was the resource teacher for remedial services at the time of her retirement. Beth embraced life with enthusiasm and was always on hand to help a friend in need. She was a long time resident of Spring Garden Terrace, but spent many summers in the family home in Mill Village. Beth was well traveled and took many trips abroad and was very involved in many organizations including the Canadian Federation of University Women, Halifax Club, The Commercial Club, Heritage Trust, The Halifax Ladies Musical Club, Ashburn Golf Club, Symphony Nova Scotia, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and the Halifax Branch of Retired Women Teachers. Beth was also very active and enjoyed figure skating, sailing, swimming, playing golf as well as playing bridge. A private burial took place in the Mill Village Community Cemetery near the Old Mill Village Anglican Church which she cherished in her younger years. A public memorial service was held Friday, November 30th, 2007 in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. Donations in Beth’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice. November 18, 2007 to November 24, 2007 continued FAULKNER, Mark Wade "Duby", age 24, of Centre Burlington, Hants County, passed away suddenly, on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at Wentworth Creek, Hants County. Born on August 23, 1983, in Windsor, Hants County, Mark is the son of Donna (nee: Faulkner) Sanford and Wade O'Leary. Mark had found his calling driving big eighteen wheelers, for Select Transport, Three Mile Plains. He loved driving the big rigs, doing mechanical work and especially driving his car with his loud music. He had an infectious smile with a heart of gold. He was an avid teaser and enjoyed the company of his friends and extended family. Besides his mother and father, he is survived by brothers, Mike (Jen) Laffin, Windsor; Justin and Kyle Sanford, Cogmagun; Jenna and Jaret O'Leary, Lower Vaughans; grandmothers, "Nan" Iona Faulkner, Hantsport; "Nanny" Lola O'Leary, Martock; step-father, Roger Sanford; special nieces, Jacoba and Makayla. He was predeceased by his grandfather, "Papa" Victor O'Leary; grandmother, "Nan" Doris Sanford. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2007, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Born on October 11, 1990, in Halifax, he was the son of Donna Benjamin (Steven Pemberton) and Rick (Stacey) Hartt. Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Tyler, at home; half sister, Dakota, Brooklyn; grandparents, Debby and Ricky Hartt, Windsor; Pat Benjamin and John Shepherd, Falmouth; Clarence and Wendy Benjamin, St. Croix; great-grandmother, Regina Hartt, Windsor; great grandparents, Joan Crossley and Garnet Kaiser, Dartmouth; aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by great grandfather, Willy Hartt; uncles, William Hartt and Michael Benjamin. November 18, 2007 to November 24, 2007 continued The family of Harry William "Bill" and Maxine Annie "Mackie" (Parker) Gillott, are deeply saddened to announce their passing on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at Wentworth Creek, Hants County, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Bill and Maxine resided in Upper Burlington, Hants County. Bill was born on February 5, 1940, in Mount Denson, Hants County, Nova Scotia, and was a son of the late George and Margaret (Skipper) Gillott. Maxine was born on November 23, 1941, in Upper Burlington, Hants County, Nova Scotia, and she was the only daughter of the late Calvin R. and Winnifred (Reynolds) Parker. Bill was a self-employed painter and contractor. He was an adherant of the Kempt Baptist Church. He was a hard working and dedicated father. Maxine was a member of the Kempt Baptist Church. She was a wonderful stay at home mom, devoted to her children and grandchildren. Bill and Maxine have been married for over 46 years. They are survived by daughters, Darlene (Michael) Trefry, Ellershouse; Anne-Marie (Brian) Connors, Upper Burlington; sons, Stephen (Cheryl) Gillott, Upper Burlington; Danny (Karlene) Gillott, Falmouth; John (Tracy) Gillott, Surrey, BC; daughter-in-law, Shelly Lynn Gillott, Upper Burlington; grandchildren, James Gillott; Adam Gillott; Zack and Madison Trefry; Nikolas and Jillian Connors; Amanda Grace Gillott, and a grandchild to be born in March 2008. Bill is also survived by his sisters, Barb (Michael) Campbell, Falmouth; Ruth (Roscoe) Schofield, Falmouth; brothers, David Gillott, Truro; Michael (Karen) Gillott, Hantsport. Maxine is also survived by her brothers, Garnet Parker, Upper Burlington; William "Bill" (Alice) Parker, Middle Sackville; they are also survived by aunts, uncles, numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Bill and Maxine were predeceased by their son, Gregory James Gillott (2001). Besides their parents, Bill was also predeceased by his sister, Karen Gillott (1994); and Maxine was also predeceased by her brother, Calvin "Buddy" Parker (1992). November 18, 2007 to November 24, 2007 continued ROBBINS, Donald Joseph – 76, Wedgeport, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Friday, November 23, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born June 26, 1931 in Wedgeport, he was a son of the late Barney and Gertie (Cottreau) Robbins. Donald worked for a time at the Kentville Sanitorium, then worked for the rest of his life as a fisherman. He was an active spokesman for Alcoholics Anonymous, and he was very devoted to his church and parish of Saint Michael’s in Wedgeport. Surviving are brothers and sisters, William (Helene) Robbins, Wedgeport; Jane Surette, Pinkney’s Point; Joseph (Betty) Robbins, Wedgeport; Agnes (Wilbur) Doucette, Pinkney’s Point, along with several close nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Adolphe, in infancy, Everett and Adolphe; sisters, Frances Corporon and Viola Robbins. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 Sunday, Nov. 25 with prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Wedgeport. The funeral mass was held at 11 AM, Monday, November 26 from Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Wedgeport, Father Wieslaw Papuga officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. November 18, 2007 to November 24, 2007 continued TREFRY, Murray “Allen” - 91, Chebogue Point, passed away November 23, 2007, in Tidal View Manor, Yarmouth. He was the oldest son of the late Murray and Irene (Pinckney) Trefry. He was educated in Yarmouth. After graduating from Yarmouth Academy, he graduated from Nova Scotia Agriculture College, class of 1939, and from Ontario Agriculture College, class of 1942. He worked for the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture from 1939-1942. He farmed at Chebogue Point from 1943-1976. He was an avid bowler and gardener, known especially for his vegetables and pumpkin patch. He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” (Bailey) Trefry; daughters, Jacqueline (James) Hayes, Brooklyn; Louise (Brian) d’Eon, Yarmouth; sons, Jim (Pat), Chebogue Point; Bruce (Marlene), Yarmouth; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Keith (Ruth) Trefry, Yarmouth; Charlie (Judy) Trefry, Manitoba; sisters, Lillian Hopkins, Sechelt, B.C., and Doris (Ken) Cossaboom, New Brunswick. He was predeceased by his brother, Ross. Visitation was held Monday, Nov. 26 from 1-2 p.m. with funeral held at 2 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Chapel, Yarmouth, Rev. A.D. “Bill” Newell and Rev. Peter Turpin officiated. Interment will be in Chebogue Cemetery. Donations can be made to Chebogue Cemetery or a charity of choice.
