Humps into hollows as Queens Rec centre begins
Region of Queens Municipal Council has approved $45,000 in start-up funds to prepare 22 acres of land for the new Queens Place recreation facility.
J.A.S. Investments Ltd. sold the land to the municipality for $510,000 but donated about half of it back.

It is set to house a $20-million recreation facility with a 900-seat NHL sized arena, walking track, 25-metre, four-lane pool plus a therapeutic pool.

It will also contain a fitness centre and community room.

Once the ground is frozen, Mayor John Leefe says they will clear marketable timber, and install a service road as well as ditching and signage.

With the timber removed, the Region is then in the position to “see exactly what the ground” offers them, says Mayor Leefe.

It will allow them to see how challenging it will be to move the humps into the hollows and whether the bedrock is near the surface, he explains.

He adds the Region needs to know some of these things for civil engineering-related construction purposes.
