Red ribbon campaign begins
Queens RCMP will stop drivers traveling past Exit 19 on Nov. 14 as part of the annual Red Ribbon Campaign organized by MADD Canada.
The Lunenburg/Queens County chapter of MADD has decided to hold the yearly event at the Tim Hortons parking lot in Liverpool.
Starting at 3 p.m. people can drop by to learn about the “importance of not drinking and driving,” says campaign chairperson, Dale Saulnier.
Cake and refreshments will be available as well.
In addition, MADD Canada is also promoting that people can call 911 if they suspect someone is driving under the influence.
Every year MADD Canada volunteers across the country distribute red ribbons for display on items such as a car or purse, says Saulnier.
This takes place the first Monday after Jan. 1.
The MADD Canada Lunenburg/Queens Chapter invites everyone to attend the Nov. 14 red ribbon launch in Liverpool, Saulnier says.
Information will be available about drinking and driving, MADD Canada’s goals, along with accomplishments over the years, explains Saulnier.
Information will be handed out as well at the checkpoint.
Impaired driving kills more than four Canadians each day, says Saulnier.
People should come out to show “they are willing to make the commitment to not drink and drive,” she adds.
