Noel causes widespread power outages, property damage
By all accounts, post tropical storm Noel didn’t pack the wallop some forecasters expected but it was powerful enough to cause some property damage, uproot trees, down limbs and cause widespread power outages.
Nova Scotia Power indicated early Sunday morning that as many as 160,000 customers throughout the province were without power. Information on NSPI’s toll-free outage line (1-877-428-6004) Sunday morning indicated that the estimated time of restoration for customers in the Wolfville area was 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6.
About 70 mm of rain fell on Kentville during the storm and wind gusts reached 80 km/h.
New Minas fast food restaurants and coffee shops were much busier than usual Sunday morning, mostly due to an influx of customers without power at home.
A tree fell on the office of the Greensboro Inn Motel in New Minas causing undetermined damage and there were several other examples of minor property damage throughout Kings County. Many signs were damaged or toppled. Reporter Kirk Starratt files the following video package…
