Annual tournament introduces kids to future classmates
Grade six students from a number of different schools in the area met in a series of matches at Digby Elementary School on Oct. 15.

School physical education instructor, Karen Shupe, started the tournament about 15 years ago.

"When I started at this elementary school, it was new to have phys ed," said Shupe. "I was the first phys ed teacher."

She said Digby Elementary has the tournament every year so the grade six students can meet each other and see who they're classmates might be next year.

There were five schools participating in the tournament, but with so many kids at Digby, the school fielded three teams; Digby Yellow, Digby Red and Digby Blue. The other schools were Islands Consolidated, Barton, Weymouth and Digby Neck Consolidated.

Each group of students played two games, and by the end of the morning, it was Digby Red earning the championship.
