Sleeping man who sparked unnecessary river search found guilty
A 30-year-old Liverpool man who sparked a large search and rescue operation after attempting to escape Queens Detachment RCMP by jumping into the Mersey River Sept. 16 was found guilty of obstructing a police officer and five counts of a breach of undertaking in Liverpool Provincial Court Oct. 23.
Jason Alexander Meisner jumped into the river off the parking lot wharf at about 2:15 a.m. and was swept away in the current. At the time, RCMP were concerned with a possible breach of undertaking for consuming alcohol.

However, while the subsequent search and rescue effort continued, he made his way to shore and walked home. He then took a shower and went to bed. He was found in the house at about 2 p.m.

Liverpool Fire Department and Queens Ground Search and Rescue volunteers, RCMP, and a Department of Natural Resources helicopter were on the scene. A RCMP boat and diver based in Chester were also called before Meisner was found.

He will be sentenced on Dec. 11.
