Police have seized a number of marijuana plants and grow-op equipment in a search of a Cambridge Mountain Road home Thursday, Oct. 4.
Kings RCMP-New Minas members exercised a search warrant at the residence that morning around 10 a.m. Police apprehended one male resident at the scene.
Forty mature marijuana plants, some dried product being prepared for sale as well as some grow-op equipment were seized from the house and property during the search.
Police charged the 26-year-old suspect with unlawful cannabis marijuana production and possession for the purpose of trafficking, both under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act. Marijuana is a Schedule II drug under the Act.
RCMP held the accused briefly then released him on a promise to appear in Kentville provincial court Nov. 26.
Kings RCMP spokesman Cst. Les Kakonyi said of the raid, “it’s a continuation of information received and general investigation.”
Police have seized some large amounts of drugs and weapons in a couple of local actions in recent months, as well as a number of relatively smaller marijuana caches such as that in Cambridge.
Kakonyi said the amount at the Cambridge search included adult plants and the grow-op equipment.
He noted that the annual marijuana crop grown outside in the Valley should just about harvested by now and is believed to be largely in the process of preparation for marketing.
