Highway continues to take toll
Another of many, many accidents that have occurred over the years on a winding stretch of Highway #103 by the Port Joli/Robertson’s Lake area in Queens Co. have left a 40-year truck driver recuperating with two broken bones in Halifax.
The incident occurred between 3:45 a.m. and 4 a.m. Oct. 3 when a tractor-trailer truck carrying frozen food overturned. No other vehicles were involved.

Leaking diesel fuel and downed power lines delayed firefighters from getting to the man, who was pinned under the dash of the truck, until the electricity was shut off.

According to RCMP, he was airlifted at about 8 a.m. to the Queens Elizabeth II Hospital for treatment for his non-life-threatening injuries.

South Shore Traffic Services, Queens RCMP, EHS Nova Scotia, and West Queens First Responders also responded.

South Shore Traffic Services is investigating the cause. Tired firefighters were once again called to the scene at about noon to help with the clean-up and removal effort, which should be completed today.

The highway was closed at first. One lane was later re-opened.
