Guitarist extraordinaire to appear in Windsor
Two innovators in the genre of progressive acoustic guitar, Don Ross and Andy McKee, will team up with Prince Edward Island singer/songwriter Brooke Miller for a concert at the Mermaid Imperial Performing Arts Centre in Windsor. The concert is Friday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m.
Don is also offering a workshop for intermediate and advanced guitarists at 2 p.m. at the Imperial Theatre Loft. Call (902) 798-5841, ext. 2 for more information.
Canadian audiences are well acquainted with Ross's music. He is one of today’s true innovators of guitar composition and technique. He has emerged as one of the most respected musicians in Canada and one of the top guitarists in the world.
He first started experimenting with the solo possibilities of the acoustic guitar at the age of eight. By age 10 he was playing in alternate tunings and exploring “fingerstyle” technique, a right-hand discipline similar to classical guitar-playing. He has released 11 CDs of his one-of-a-kind funk and R&B inspired solo guitar tunes.
Hailing from Topeka, Kansas, McKee has toured extensively with Ross. Shortly after his Toronto appearance, a video posted to the "broadcast yourself" website YouTube seemed to go viral all over the Internet.
The resulting dark-horse story of how a piece for solo guitar became the number one all-time YouTube video has quickly become legend.
Charlottetown-raised songwriter Miller is a relative newcomer to the Canadian music scene. She has just released her first CD under a recently-inked publishing deal with Sony ATV Music in Manhattan. The disc, You Can See Everything, features 10 songs that showcase Brooke's multiple talents as singer, songwriter and excellent guitarist.
Don, Andy and Brooke have toured together in various combinations in the last few years, but never have the three shared the same bill. This should be a great night, part of a two-week tour by the three across eastern Canada.
Tickets are $20, with a discount to $12 for students (school, university or guitar workshop) and are available at Moe’s Place Music Sales in Windsor (798-5565).
