Reunion surplus donated to schools
Former Queens County students who enjoyed last July’s Liverpool Regional High School 50th Anniversary Reunion are now helping current county students.
Anniversary Planning Committee Chair, David Pottie presented South Queens Junior High, Dr. John C. Wickwire Academy and Liverpool Regional High schools with cheques totaling $4,150 Aug. 29.

He explained, “The reunion committee members had some money in excess of costs and are donating it to the three schools for the improvement and enhancement of numeracy and literacy.”

He said over 700 people registered for the July 5-8 event, a number that surpassed the committee’s expectations and brought in extra revenue. He added all three schools played an important role in the success of the reunion as well.

The elementary school is receiving $350, the senior high school $1,000 and the junior high school, which was Liverpool Regional High School at the time for most of those attending the reunion, $2,800.

South Queens Junior High School Principal, Leo Campbell said he plans to discuss with staff how the unexpected funds will be used and ensure students know who made the donation.

“We want to do something that the majority of kids will benefit from. We’re appreciative of it and it will be put to good use.”

Dr. John C. Wickwire Principal, Misty Nauss and Liverpool Regional High School Vice-Principal, Karen Seamone echoed his sentiments.
