Staff at Prescott House Museum are working currently on a new permanent apple display. Museum staff are interested in speaking to anyone who may want to contribute copies of photographs, text, stories or physical objects related to the apple industry in Port Williams. Please call 542-3984.

The library’s summer program is well underway. Craft and story times based on the Summer Reading Program’s Lost World theme are held every Wednesday throughout the summer. Children ages 2-6 will meet from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and those from 5-11 from 2-3 p.m. (the age overlap will accommodate siblings). Call 542-3005 to sign up and get more for details.

One-on-one computer tutorials are offered each Wednesday during the mornings and evenings for all ages. The more response there is, the more it will be available.

Grab a magnifying glass and make a beeline to Prescott House to join Dr. Todd Smith of the the Acadia University Science Dept. for a fun-filled afternoon!

We will examine ants, beetles, earwigs, bees and other creeping critters that can be found on the property and are likely common to your own backyards! The event, for kids from seven-and-up, runs from 1-3 p.m. Wed., Aug. 22.

Space is limited to 12 children; call the museum at 542-3984 to pre-register. Please dress for the weather, wear sunscreen and a hat. A snack of cookies and lemonade will be provided.

Tennis lessons are offered this summer at our tennis courts Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. by John Vanderweit, an experienced instructor. Group and individual lessons are available; just call 542-3338 (evenings only please) to arrange them.

Launchers Athletics will hold their 2007 Corn Boil Open at the Launch Pad on Collins Rd. Sat., Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. The events (shot put, discus and javelin) are open to beginners through to elite in all age divisions.

Free refreshments, hot dogs and corn will be provided compliments of P.W. Recreation Committee. The cost is $5 per athlete or $10 per family. For details and registration go to www.launchers.ca or call Steve Wohlmuth at 542-4848. Registration deadline is Wed. Aug. 23.

The blood donor clinic for our area will be held Wed., Aug. 22 and Thurs., Aug. 23 at the Kentville Fire Hall. There are two sessions: 1-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m.
