Wildcats lose 9-7 in Dartmouth
BY JOHN DECOSTE

Kings County Register

The Kentville Wildcats' three-game winning streak came to an end July 8 with a 9-7 loss in Dartmouth.

The league-leading Moosehead Dry scored five times in the first inning off Kentville starter Jeff Bishop, added a run in the third and three more in the fifth. Kevin Daurie relieved Bishop in the fifth inning, and Curtis Falls pitched the eighth.

The Wildcats plated a pair of runs each in the fifth and sixth and three in the eighth, but their comeback attempt fell short as Darren Hiltz pitched a scoreless ninth to save the decision for starter Steve Nelson.

Jason Archibald had a three-run homer, Jason Irvine a two-run blast and Hiltz a solo homer for Dartmouth, which also got three singles from Craig MacDonald as part of a nine-hit attack.

For Kentville, which had seven runs on seven hits, Jeff Lockhart had a two-run double, Nick Hill a single and double and one RBI, and Ian Lockhart two singles.

The loss dropped the Wildcats' record to 6-13 entering their game July 11 at home against Dartmouth. This weekend, the 'Cats host Summerside July 14 at 2 p.m., Chatham at 7:30 p.m. and Moncton July 15 at 2 p.m.
