The South West Shore Development Authority (SWSDA) is now focusing their efforts on selling Shelburne Park, since the recent closing deal on Shelburne Place.
“Our focus now is to get rid of the second one,” says Frank Anderson, Chief Executive Officer of SWSDA.
They have been managing the property on behalf of Team Shelburne, a group of leaders and community members from the five municipal units that make up Shelburne County.
“We are dealing with a couple of clients and will finish up with them first,” says Frank Anderson, “If they don’t do it we will have requests for proposals, again.”
SWSDA has been running the site at almost full operation since acquiring the property from the Shelburne Park agency in 1999, at a cost of approximately $300,000 per year.
Anderson expects the request for proposals will bring in offers ranging from $3-million to $5-million for the 65-hectare site that was not long ago assessed at $18-million.
“The board just wants to get rid of it,” explained Anderson, “they want to see it get into private sectors hands and let them pay taxes and employ people.”
He expects the proposal process to begin within the next two weeks and to last close to a month.
Anderson has high hopes the property will receive adequate proposals due to an advertising program initiative informing the public of their intent to sell.
“We have had it long enough,” said Anderson.
