Windsor and District Lions celebrate a number of firsts
By Lion John Rafuse
They have celebrated a number of first for the club.
Lions and guests of the Windsor & District Lions Club, gathered at the Three Mile Plains Hall for the recent closing supper and awards night.
Vice District Governor Peter Wallace represented the district and Deputy Mayor Andy Kirk the town of Windsor. After a fine meal cooked and served by the Three Mile Plains women's institute, King Lion John Robertson presented some well-deserved awards to his fellow Lions.
This was a night of firsts for the club, the King Lion decided that the Lion of the year award – “Lion Al McKay Award” -- should be presented to all the Windsor Lions for their outstanding work and achievements that were accomplished during the year. Lion Dave Burgess accepted the award from Connie McKay on behalf of the Club.
Lion Rachel Sheehy presented the “Lion Ron Sheehy Award” for Mr. Lion to co-winners Lions Kirk Stephen and Stan Dauphinee; their organizational skills and dedication to the club over the year were second to none.
Presidents awards were awarded to Lions outgoing secretary and Past District Governor Art Benedict, Joe Robertson and Verge Huntley. Presidents appreciation awards were given to Lions Glen Joudrey, Harry Falkenham, and Sylvia Kehoe.
The King Lion then performed his final and most important event of the evening, when he, as the outgoing president passed the gavel to the new president -- King Lion Annie Wilson. Annie is the first female president in the Windsor & District Lions Club’s 46 year history, a proud moment for all Lions of the Club.
