Getting Gators together, from Facebook to realtime

High school memories are a lot closer for many people with the growing interest in Facebook.
The internet photo album and networking site has users of all ages and interests, and Flora (Dalton) Acker has reconnected with some of her old Central Kings classmates.
“I’ve just been on facebook a month, and I have 160 people on my friends list - it’s getting hard to keep up with!” she says.
Acker, who grew up in Waterville and attended Central Kings through the mid-’80s, was particularly keen to track down high school friends.
“I see a lot of people around, almost everyday, that live local, but I’ve seen pictures on Facebook just in the last bit and I’ve forgotten so many - half the people that were hall monitors, and a guy I hadn’t seen in a long time. He just appeared the other day and said, ‘Man, let’s don’t lose touch,” Acker says.
She’s now taking the on-line reunion atmosphere into the real world, planning a get-together at the Berwick Legion July 28 for “old and young - whoever went to C.K., graduated or not.
“I’ve never been to a C.K. reunion - I never graduated, and I missed a lot of the events. My heart was there.”
The Berwick get-together includes a potluck supper at 5:30 p.m. and a Denny Myles karaoke evening afterwards. Tickets will be $8 or $12 a couple, and there will be prizes for those who attend and join in the singing. Any extra funds after the event will be given to the high school as a gift for future students.
Acker is co-ordinating the event through Facebook’s events listing - look it up under “C.K. - Blast from the past,” or call her at 847-1131.
“You see people on Facebook and say, ‘Oh yeah, there they are’ - it’s amazing what triggers your memories.”
