Liverpool will host Nova Scotia Music Week for a second subsequent year when the annual conference hits the community November 9-11, 2007.
The Music Nova Scotia event left Halifax for the first time last year and quickly turned into the most successful edition to date, drawing a record number of delegates and fans to the South Shore.
“Moving our event to smaller communities was probably the best move we’ve made,” says Music Nova Scotia Executive Director Gordon Lapp. “Liverpool embraced the event and the artists felt great about playing.”
Music Nova Scotia hopes to perfect last year’s model, which was a cooperative effort between the association and the Liverpool host committee. Developing a concept and budget that pleased both the town and Music Nova Scotia’s membership was key to the event’s success, and Music Week co-chairs Bill Appleby and Hayward Parrott will engage the community again to ensure a successful event.
“We are honoured to co-chair this event,” says Appleby. “Our commitment is to set the stage for our industry to come together, network, learn new skills, celebrate our achievements, and share our music. We are truly excited to be returning to Liverpool and to again be working with a community that has shown such wonderful support for Nova Scotia talent.”
“Liverpool is honoured to be hosting Nova Scotia Music Week again this year,” adds John Wiles, Liverpool host committee chair. “The community thoroughly enjoyed the event last year and are looking forward to once again welcoming NSMW participants and hearing some great music.”
The event committee expects Music Week 2007 will serve as a standard for future conferences. Music Nova Scotia plans on bringing Music Week to different regions in the province starting in 2008, and the extra year in Liverpool will give the association time to develop a bid process for interested communities.
“Moving the event around the province will help us market our association, as well as showcase our great talent throughout the province,” says Lapp.
White Point Beach Resort will once again serve as the base of operations for much of Nova Scotia Music Week’s operations. This charming vacation spot buzzed with activity during the 2006 conference, and Lapp expects word of mouth to spread quickly about the event’s return.
“Anyone who was at White Point last year experienced music at it’s best, hospitality of the finest kind and the music industry coming together like I have not seen in years,” says Lapp. “White Point is a perfect setting for our event.”
