Yarmouth Rural RCMP report for period of May 21 to June 4
During the period of May 21 to June 4, the Yarmouth Rural RCMP Detachment received 134 calls for service. These calls included, but were not limited to: theft - 20; theft over $5000 - one; false 911 calls - 14; damage to property - 11; traffic offences - 10; motor vehicle accidents - nine; provincial statutes - nine; break and enters - nine; false alarms - seven; suspicious persons/vehicles - seven; assaults - four; uttering threats - four; other Criminal Code - four; frauds - two; theft of motor vehicles - two; impaired drivers - two; breach of the peace – two and animal calls - two.
There were also many thefts from unlocked vehicles throughout the county. Vehicle owners are urged to lock their doors.
Some of the noteworthy calls included:
On May 21 at 2:39 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident on the Hard Scratch Road that resulted in the driver being charged with impaired driving.
On May 22 at 9:24 a.m., police responded to a call involving a property owner finding what was thought to be an old grenade. A military Explosive Disposal Unit was contacted and contained and disposed the device.
On May 22 at 5:27 p.m., police received a call reporting the theft and attempted use of a VISA card. Culprits had tried to make cash withdrawals at a bank machine.
On May 23 at 4:28 p.m., police responded to a call of a large group of people gathering in the Pembroke area. Police had received information that a group of youths were going to hold a boxing or ultimate fighting match. The group scattered upon police arrival. The investigation is ongoing.
On May 26 at 10:54 p.m., police responded to a call to provide assistance to EHS paramedics who were having trouble with a violent male requiring medical assistance. He was controlled and transported to hospital.
On May 30 at 8:47 a.m., police responded to a call of a motor vehicle not obeying a flagman's signal at a highway construction site. The same vehicle is alleged to have done the same thing the day previous. The Meteghan detachment is assisting in tracking down the driver. The matter is under investigation.
On June 3 police responded to three separate domestic disturbances; investigations are ongoing.
On June 4 at approximately 5 p.m., police executed a search warrant at a residence in Belleville. A quantity of money and liquor was seized and an adult male was charged with keeping liquor for sale.
