Yarmouth will have a farmers' market starting June 30.

Marci Melvin says it's full steam ahead for the market she is planning, which will begin at 8 a.m. every Saturday until October in the Canadian Tire parking lot, weather permitting. Melvin says she has more than 15 contributors ready to bring the fruit of their labours to the market and everyone is excited.

"There are so many people that are so incredibly interested," she says.

Melvin, who prefers to eat organic food, says the idea for the market stems from her displeasure with the organic selection offered by area grocery stores. She says this is a way to bring quality-made local food to people in the area and keep money in the community.

The market will offer food that is organic, free range or, at the very least, locally grown or produced. Old World Bakery will have a table as will Little Lebanon. There will be eggs, flowers, seafood, vegetables, syrups and more.

Melvin's husband, Ron Anaka, owns Canadian Tire and is donating parking lot space for the market. There's an obvious benefit for Anaka to have the market so close to his store, but he was also the only person willing to donate space to the farmers. That means the weekly market won't cost the farmers one penny.

Space in the market is limited to people with food products. Applications are available at Canadian Tire.
