News about local fire department activities/events
DISPATCHERS’ EQUIPMENT UPGRADED
A new recorder that will display incoming calls and record voice calls has been added to the dispatch office at the Yarmouth fire hall.
The screen displays the message, telephone number, time of call from the place of emergency, 911 or EHS. A click of a button can give the dispatcher a voice, thus making it easier for checking back. Blocked incoming calls do not record. The dispatcher will also be able to listen in on incoming radio traffic.
LEVEL ONE TRAINING
The local fire training grounds was busy again recently as volunteer firefighters from Little Brook, Southville and St. Bernard spent the day working towards their level one certification.
BOWLING BANQUET
The date for the bowling awards night has been set for Thursday, June 14, 6:30 p.m. at the Austrian Inn. Team captains are asked to let Danny Hennigar know the number of their team who will be attending.
VFF CAR PLATES
The Yarmouth department is looking into purchasing a volunteer firefighters plate that will be displayed on the front of their vehicle. This will give police and the public help in distinguishing the vehicle in which a firefighter is responding to an emergency. This does not give them the right to speed or demand the right of way on the highway.
DATE IN HISTORY
May 17, 1974 - A mutual aid call to Carleton at 2:25 p.m. was responded to by Engine #2 and a crew of volunteers. A house, barn and shed were involved, keeping both Yarmouth and Carleton busy until 5:15 pm.
