April 15,  2007 to April 21, 2007 Saulnier, Irene Marie - 92, Little Dolphin Senior Boarding Home, Mavillette, Digby Co., died April 15 in the home. Funeral was held in St. Vincent de Paul Church, Salmon River. Interment in the parish cemetery.
April 15,  2007 to April 21, 2007 Kathleen Winnifred, 75, Economy, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, NS. Born in Kempt Shore, she was the daughter of the late Feetham and Alice (Parker) Armstrong. Kathy will always be remembered for her loving dedication to her family and friends and for her love of animals. She was a very strong and classy lady. Kathy is survived by son, Tony (Diana), Langley, BC; step daughter, Pat Appleby (Rod) Hope, BC; daughter-in-law, Elaine Redden, Kempt Shore; grandchildren, Neil Redden, Beverley (Rob) Amos, Kimberly (Ronnie) Trider, Colin Redden, Erica Redden, foster children, Angela McLellan and Terry Grey; eight great grandchildren, brother, Lorimer (Joan) Armstrong, Kempt Shore, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Kathy was predeceased by her husband Raymond Appleby, son Gary Redden, brother Stanley Armstrong, and sisters Jessie, Phyllis, Clare and Lucy. Cremation has taken place. No visitation or service by request. Family flowers only. Donations in Kathy‚s memory may be made to Palliative Care Unit, Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, SPCA, or to a charity of one‚s choice. The Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, April 22, at 2:00 pm at the Kempt Shore Cemetery with Rev. Garnet Parker officiating. Following the Graveside Service, there will be a reception in honor of Kathy at the Summerville District Fire Hall. April 15,  2007 to April 21, 2007 Brown, Robert Frederick - 90, Upper Clements, passed away peacefully April 15, 2007 in Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Facility, Halifax. Born October 14, 1916 in Clementsvale, Annapolis Co., he was the son of the late Maynard and Genevive ( Fraser ) Brown. Robert was a member of the Annapolis Regiment from 1936-1939 and when war was declared, joined the West Nova Scotia Regiment as it was mobilized for active duty. He served overseas with the 1st Canadian R.E.C.C.E. and the 4th P.L.D.G., returning to Canada in August of 1945. Robert devoted his entire life to hard work and spent long hours becoming a successful dairy farmer in Upper Clements. He enjoyed his later years in his woodlot and his garden, the two places he treasured most. Robert is survived by his wife, Edythe ( Bustin ) Brown; sons, Larry ( Nora ), Fredericton; David ( Christine ); Donald ( Marcia ); William ( Bonny ), Upper Clements; daughter, Jean ( Kevin ) Smith, Belleisle; sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Loren "Buster" and his sister Kathleen. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service at the request of the deceased. A family service will be held at a later date at which time Robert's ashes will be scattered in a special place on his woodlot. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Community Health Foundation. April 15,  2007 to April 21, 2007 Hazel Pauline Veinot – The family of Hazel Pauline Veinot, 81, of Kentville are sad to announce her peaceful passing, surrounded by her family, on Monday, April 16, 2007 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Kentville on February 26, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence “Tom” and Hilda (Moore) Boylan. She was a member of the Salvation Army – Kentville Citadel for over 50 years, where she was a member of the Ladies Home League. She was a loving wife and mother and was kind to all around her. Her favourite pastime was listening to music. She is survived by a daughter, Roseann (Stanley) Moors, Kentville; three sons, Frank (Helen), Donald (Lorenda) and Ronald (Lorna), all of Kentville; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank; an infant daughter, Donna; a brother, Russell. Visitation was held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2007. Major Bond Jennings officiated. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. April 15,  2007 to April 21, 2007 CROOKS, Elizabeth Anne “Betty” - 66, of Bridgetown, formerly of Melvern Square, NS, passed away April 16, 2007 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, NS. Born in Middleton, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Evelyn (Gates) Crooks. Betty was dearly loved by all her family and friends. She is survived by sisters; Nettie Crooks, Bedford, NS; Edna (Brian) Chappel, Bayfield, Ont.; niece, Tina and nephew, Murray. A memorial service was held Thursday, April 19 2007, in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902)825-3448. Dr. William Moorehead officiated. Interment will be in Church Grove Cemetery, Melvern Square. By family request, there will be no visitation. Donations in memory may be made to the Charity of Choice. April 15,  2007 to April 21, 2007 COTTREAU, C. Alfred – 83, Lower Wedgeport, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully in Yarmouth Regional Hospital, on Monday, April 16, 2007, surrounded by his family. Born December 5, 1923 in Wedgeport, he was a son of the late Nathan and Caroline (Pothier) Cottreau. Alfred was a proud veteran of the second World War, having served with the Royal Canadian Engineers. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 155, Wedgeport. He worked with A. L. LeBlanc Fisheries as a truck driver, and also worked as a school bus driver with the Argyle Municipal School Board. Alfred loved socializing with his buddies at the Yarmouth Mall, and enjoyed playing cards, gardening and mowing his lawn. Surviving are his children, Cathy (Neil) McGillivray, Halifax; Chris (Susan) Cottreau, Dartmouth; Laurel (Sheldon) Scott, Barrington; a grandson, Brandon Nathan Cottreau; sisters, Leonice LeBlanc, Wedgeport; Rose-Anna Lavoie, Levi, QC. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Alma (Babin) Cottreau. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 Wednesday, with a Legion Service at 7:30 PM, followed by prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Wedgeport. The funeral mass was held at 11 AM, Wednesday, April 19 from Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Wedgeport, Msgr. Gerald LeBlanc officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of choice. April 15,  2007 to April 21, 2007 ROBERTS, Mary Margaret “Maggie” - 86, passed away peacefully, Monday April 16, 2007 in Tidal View Manor, Yarmouth, and formerly of Argyle Head. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Rose (Boyd) Atkins. She worked as a homemaker. Surviving are husband of 57 years, Elmer Roberts. son David Roberts, Guelph, Ont; a daughter Sharon (Steven) Gunson, Aldergrove B.C.; a bother George Atkins, Montreal Que.; four grandchildren, Benjamin, Rachel Roberts; Vanessa St.Croix, Samantha Gunson; besides her parents she was predeceased by brothers, Sonnie, Melford and Buck. Visitation was from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 with prayers at 8 pm thursday, followed by funeral service Friday April 20, at 1 pm from H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert St. Yarmouth, with Father John MacPherson officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. April 15,  2007 to April 21, 2007 Sanford, Albert Garnet - 61 Union Corner, Hants County formerly of Edmonton Alberta. It is with sad hearts that we mourn the loss of Albert Garnet Sanford "J.R." who passed away suddenly on April 16, 2007 at the age of 61. Born in Windsor on April 13, 1946, he was a son of the late Albert and Hilda (Sibbley) Sanford. J.R. lived in Alberta for 28 years where he was employed with the City of Edmonton until his retirement in January 2007. One of his great loves was playing his guitar and singing. He also enjoyed watching wrestling and the Trailor Park Boys on TV. J.R. is survived by brothers Ralph (Debbie); Edward (Cheryl); sisters, Mildred Hatchard; Dorothy Hatchard; Shirley Sanford (Richard); several nieces and nephews and a special friend Lorraine Ward. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his companion Joella MacDonald; sister Rhoda Lowe and brother Harley. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by family request. A Memorial service will be held Thursday April 19, 2007 in the Brooklyn Fire Department with Rev. Garnet Parker officiating. A reception will follow immediately after the service. Internment will be at a later date in the St. James Cemetery, Brooklyn. In lieu of flowers donations in J.R.'s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of ones choice. April 15,  2007 to April 21, 2007 HUBBARD, John Frederick “Snookie” – 72, Main Street, Yarmouth, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born March 1, 1935 in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late Simon and Henrietta (Hubbard) Hubbard. He was a retired electrician, having worked for himself, as well as with Myer’s Electric and Mike Ryan Electrical, all in Yarmouth. Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Zita M. (Saulnier) Hubbard; a son, Bruce (Rita) Hubbard, Yarmouth; daughters, Diane (Jeff) MacLeod, Yarmouth; Susan (Eric) Hennebury, Halifax; grandchildren, Amanda (John) Blackmore, Lower Sackville; Rachel Wells (Ian Huskins), Aldric Hubbard, Stephen Hubbard, all of Yarmouth; a great-granddaughter, Scotia Huskins; a sister, Gladys Surette, Yarmouth. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Fred, Bobbie and Raymond; sisters, Helen, Cecilia, Theresa, Dorothy, Gladys, Rita, Esther, Frances, Bernice, Alma, Bertha and Enid. The family received visitors from 7-9 Wednesday with prayers at 8 PM, followed by the memorial service at 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 19, all in H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, Deacon Stephen Bourque officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. It was requested that there be family flowers only. April 15,  2007 to April 21, 2007 SINGER, Barbara Shirley – 61, Yarmouth, passed away at Yarmouth Regional Hospital on April 16, 2007. Barbara was a beloved daughter, sister and aunt. She is survived by parents Charles William (Bill) and Barbara E. Singer, Yarmouth; a sister, Linda (Willard) D’Eon, Halifax; nephew, Joel D’Eon, Ottawa; niece, Dr. Tara D’Eon, Boston, Mass. Barbara graduated from the Cape Breton Business College with a Medical Secretary Diploma, and worked in Halifax and Yarmouth. Barbara was and avid reader and crossword puzzle solver. She loved animals, especially dogs, and her father’s garden. Barbara will be greatly missed and will not be forgotten by her family and many friends. The funeral service was held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday April 18, from H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, Rev. A. D. (Bill) Newell officiated. Interment followed in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. There was no visitation at Barbara’s request. It was requested that there be family flowers only. Donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation or to the Western Counties Regional Library, Yarmouth Branch.
