Clark’s Harbour offices moving out to make way for new centre

The Clark’s Harbour Town Hall has moved next door into the Tourist Bureau for the summer. The town hall complex, and the neighboring Clark’s Harbour library will be demolished for a $665,000 multi-purpose centre that will be under construction by mid-May.

The library’s temporary location is at the Seabreeze Rebekah #24 Lodge. The tourist bureau will be located at the Seaside Heritage Centre.

All three operations will be moving into the new 50 feet by 137 ft. multi purpose facility that will contain community meeting facilities, the town hall a visitor’s information centre, the library and council chambers.

Sections of the existing town hall, which were built in the 1950’s, have had flooding and leaking problems says Town Clerk Brian Crowell so a new building will be drier. He added that the new multi-purpose facility would make it much easier for people to access.

“It will be better for the public – no steps and it will be wheelchair accessible,” he said.

The section devoted to the new visitor’s centre and the library will have twice as much room. The Western Counties Regional Library system has promised 1,000 more books for the branch.

“We’re hoping to be in the new facility the first of October,” said Crowell.

“But that depends on a lot of things including getting the old building demolished and the weather during construction.”
