Unfair condemnation
Letter to The Advertiser
To the Editor:
I wish to submit this letter regarding comments attributed to Alexa McDonough in The Advertiser, April 17/07 edition.
In your front page headline item, Ms. McDonough calls our federal government the "monstrous Harper government". This government is supported by almost 40 per cent of the Canadian electorate, including people like me. Does Ms. McDonough include us in her epithet?
Language is important. One of Ms. McDonough's parliamentary seatmates was chastized by the Speaker just this week and ordered to withdraw an unparliamentary comment and to apologize to another M.P.
Ms. McDonough has the skill and the right to criticize the policies of other Parties and to advance appropriate alternatives. I don't accept that she has the right to make the public, sweeping condemnation attributed to her in your article.
I would like to think that such comment is beneath her dignity.
