PRESENTATIONS TO VOLUNTEERS BY PLATOON CHIEFS
Five items which could improve the performance for the Yarmouth Fire Department were introduced to the membership at the regular meeting, Thursday, April 5.






Platoon Chief Steve Jeffery and Asst. Deputy Chief Ernie Steele spoke on Training. A booklet is being prepared for Level One trainees and could give Lieut’s and Captains the opportunity to teach. It was felt a training committee would be very beneficial.



Recruitment and Retention – By Deputy Chief John Wainwright and Platoon Chief Lynn Seeley brought out ways to recruit new members and how to keep them interested. School visits and open house were discussed.



Equipment – Members are vital to suggestions for non apparatus equipment, such as hose, nozzles and other small equipment. The speaker was Lynn Seeley.



Safety – Firefighters’ safety is so very important, dealing with Dept. of Labor, OH&S, YFD guidelines and the Town’s Work Policy’s. Platoon Chiefs Hank Nickerson and Rick Quesnel discussed this quite thoroughly.



Lastly YFD Regulations and By Laws were researched and brought forward by Deputy Wainwright and Platoon Chief Lynn Seeley.



These recommendations will be brought to the membership at the next general meeting. Several other items such as emergency evacuation, firefighter’s accountability system, and proper wearing of uniforms were also discussed.



FIREFIGHTERS’ GO TO SCHOOL



A thank you letter from the Family Literacy Council commending Jimmy Watkins and Ryan Thibeau for their part in the local school’s reading program.



BUILDING AUDIT



An outside firm has finished its audit of the Yarmouth Fire Hall. It appears considerable money will be needed to get the building into better shape.



BOWLING



The “B” section played its second final match with Carleton winning over East Pubnico 1546 to 1486. The series is tied 1-1. Wayne White Jr. rolled the top single of 127. Curley Kristensen had the high triple of 337.



AND THE WINNERS ARE



The two hand made afghans on display at the recent YFD Auxiliary craft sale were won by Cindy Ritchie of Yarmouth and Jeanne D’eon, West Pubnico. The Auxiliary would like to thank Wendy Blanchard for her donation.



CHRISTMAS CRAFT SALE



The dates have been set for this event on November 30 and December 1. Contact Wendy Deveau at 742-1350.



DATE IN HISTORY



April 20, 1856 – Between 9 am and 10 am on a Sunday morning the Tabernacle Church was discovered on fire. Six pews were destroyed and the floor badly burned.
