Digby County Events
The Events is for non-profit listings of events in Digby County. Items may run twice for free before the event’s date. Items can be emailed to info@digbycourier.ca, faxed to 245-6136 or mailed to the Digby Courier at 124 Water St., P.O. Box 670, Digby, N.S., B0V 1A0, attention: Events. The deadline for submitting listings for the upcoming issue is Thursday at 4 p.m.



Free income tax help

Thursdays

Trained volunteers are available to assist seniors and low-income earners with income tax returns at the Digby library on Thursdays from 1-3:30 p.m. Participants are asked to bring information and papers, such as T-4s, to complete the returns. First come, first served. Call 245-2163 for more information.



Dinner

April 13

Veterans, ex-military and wives’ dinner April 13 at 11:30 a.m. in House of Wong restaurant, Digby. For information call Vaughn Adams at 245-2388.

Soccer registration

April 14

Digby Minor Soccer Association registration for the 2007 season will be held at the Digby Arena on April 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Skating Club AGM

April 14

The Digby Area Skating Club annual general meeting will be held April 14 at 3 p.m. in the Digby Arena community room.

Auction and luncheon

April 14

Chinese auction April 14 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Luncheon from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. Assorted hot and cold dishes, salads and rolls. Gingerbread with whipped cream. Tea/coffee. North Range Hall, Digby County.

Roast pork, kraut dinner

April 14

Annual supper April 14 from 5-6 p.m. in Bear River United Church. Everyone welcome.

Clinic

April 16

An osteoporosis bone health clinic will be held April 16 at 1 p.m. at the Bear River health clinic. Sponsored by the Bear River and Community Health Clinic in partnership with Sobey’s.

Senior games

April 18-May 16

The Valley Senior Games, Digby, Zone #2, we will be holding games beginning April 18 to May 16. For information contact Diane Outhouse 839-2244.

Coffee party

April 19

A coffee party will be held April 19 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the parish hall in Deep Brook. Sponsored by the Anglican Church Women, parish of Clements.

Fundraiser

Until April 20

Bethany Bargain Bin building fundraiser “Lucky Duck Lottery” is available until April 20 at the Bethany Bargain Bin. Open hours are Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Thursdays until 8 p.m.) and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4p.m.

Benefit dinner and auction

April 21

Historic Gardens benefit dinner and auction, April 21 at 5 p.m. at Chamlpain Hall in Cornwallis. Proceeds for gardens. For tickets and information call 532-7018.

Genealogy department closed

April 20

The Admiral Digby Museum and Genealogy Department will be closed Friday, April 20. The museum apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

An Inconvenient Truth showing

April 25

A viewing of former Vice-President Al Gore’s campaign to expose the myths and misconceptions surrounding global warming and raise public awareness on the subject. The movie begins at 6:30 p.m. as part of Earth Day celebrations on Wednesday, April 25 at the Isaiah W. Wilson Memorial Library.

Cards

Tuesdays

Cards will be held every Tuesday evening at the Royal Canadian Legion, Bear River Branch #22 at 7 p.m.

Quilt display

During April

A Think Pink Quilt Display will be held at the Digby branch of the Western Counties Regional Library during April. Sewn together by Louise Chisholm and quilted by Linda Elliot, with assistance from Cassidy Harris, 9, these six quilts are on display during open hours. The quilts are for sale with all proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Chronic Pain Support Group is in place within the community. Call 245-2623 or 638-3096.

Exhibit

Scallop Palette Gallery: New works by local artists from mid April until mid June at the Digby General Hospital.

Get Dressed

Requesting good used clothing for men and women. New and unopened personal hygiene items. Used gift bags. Contact 245-2050.

Battle of Atlantic dinner

May 4

The Cornwallis Military Museum, Battle of the Atlantic Commemorative Dinner will be held May 4, doors open at 6:15 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. Held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Clementsport. Ticket purchases in advance. For more information call 638-3351.

Yard Sale

May 5

A yard sale will be held at Digby Area Arena on Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call 245-1950 to book a table. ($5/table)
