Hall, Alma May – 83, Deep Brook formerly of Lower Sackville, N.S. It is with great sadness that we celebrate the life of our loving mother, who passed away peacefully on April 1, 2007 at Digby Genreal Hospital. Born in London, England, she was a daughter of the late Williams and Elsie (Canning) Brown. For a good part of her life, Alma worked at the Telephone Answering Service in Halifax and the Halifax Water Commission. After retiring, she enjoyed being active by traveling, cooking, painting, needlework and working in her flower garden. Alma was also a member of the Peace Luthern Church, Lower Sackville for many years until she moved to Deep Brook. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alma is survived by her daughter Ann (Ken) McLaren, Deep Brook, N.S.; son Raeburn Hall, Lower Sackville and Bruce (Jean) Hall, Windsor, N.S.; brothers Stanley (Marilyn) Brown, Deep Brook; Peter (Ann) Brown, South Milford; sister Jeanette (Vince) Schoenrank, Deep Brook; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Alma was predeceased by her husband Ralph Vincent Hall and brothers William and James Brown. A memorial service was held at Peace Luthern Church, Lower Sackville on Saturday April 7. A graveside committal service will be held at a later date at Old Saint Edwards Cemetery, Clementsport, N.S. Prime, (Mullen), Eleanor Ethel – 77, Weymouth Mills, born in Havelock, died April 1 in Digby General Hospital. Funeral was held in New Tusket Baptist Church. Interment in Lakeside Cemetery, Havelock.

The family of Rosalie Alma Forsyth, 83, of Coldbrook are sad to announce her passing very peacefully at Grand View Manor, Berwick, on April 1, 2007. Born in the Forties, Lunenburg Co., on August 17, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Minard and Jennie (Bezanson) Hiltz. "Family, friends, cooking and hard work were the foundation of her life." She was a mother and grandmother to many for 55 years. She worked beside her husband, Jim, on the "Forsyth Homestead". She was a long-time supporter of the Women’s Institute and a proud member of St. James Anglican Church, Kentville. Rose is survived by her son Brian Douglas (Stephanie) Forsyth, Coldbrook and two special granddaughters, Alexa and Tiffany. She is also survived by her brother Minard and (Ida) Hiltz, New Ross. She was predeceased by her husband James, sisters: Hattie, Nellie and Stella, brothers: Stacey, Spencer, Harry and Dan. Visitation was 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Drive, Coldbrook. Funeral service was 1 p.m. Thursday, April 5th at St. James Anglican Church, Kentville. Rev. Archdeacon Lynn Uzans officiated. Reception followed at St. James Church Hall. Clarence Frederick 76, Three Mile Plains passed away Sunday April 1, 2007 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Wentworth, Hants County he was a son of the late Lewis and Alice (Mason) Whitehead. Clarence was a self employed carpenter by trade all of his life. He had a passion for working and being in the woods. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved being around nature and animals. Clarence is survived by his wife of 51 years Audrey (Wentzell); sons Emerson (Theresa), Three Mile Plains; Arnold (Nita), Falmouth; daughter Mary (Owen) Leopold, Leminster; brother Herman, Dartmouth; sisters Dorothy Hines, Newport Station; Hazel (Donald) Vantassel, St. John, NB; Ruby Hines, Windsor; grandchildren Jeff, Sara, Tony, Amanda and Mathew Whitehead; Betty-Jo Leopold; and a great grandson Lucas Whitehead. Clarence will be sadly missed by those that new and loved him. Besides his parents, Clarence was predeceased by brothers Murray, Wilfred, Cecil, Arnold, Donald, Sidney and Gordon and a sister Shirley. Cremation has taken place. The family will greet relatives and friends for a time of fellowship and remembrance in the home of Emerson and Theresa Whitehead, 55 Denise Drive, Three Mile Plains starting at 2:00 PM Wednesday April 4, 2007. Bernard Edward “Bernie” - 78, St. Croix, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Monday, April 2, 2007, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late Ernest and Rose (Griffin) Woodworth. Bernie was a Marine Engineer and he loved working on the sea. Bernie retired 18 years ago and since then he has loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and time at the camp. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Grace Weatherbed; daughter, Brenda (John Robert) MacLeod, Meadowville; and son, Jeff, Ontario; grandchildren, Marin, Daniel and Brandon. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). TURPIN, ”John” Jack Leroy, 80, of Shelburne, formerly of Haliburton, Ontario, passed away at home Monday, April 2, 2007. Born in Shelburne, he was a son of the late Melvin and Alberta (Stewart) Turpin. Jack was a veteran of the Second World War and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was also an avid woodsman and enjoyed Hunter’s Lodge on Lake George, Shelburne. John was well loved and respected by all. He is survived by his wife, the former Betty Moore; sons, Daniel and David of Toronto; daughter, Carol, Haliburton, Ont; sisters, Jeanette Burbine, Cape Cod, Mass; Susan Crooks, Montreal: 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Francis, George and Arthur; sisters, Blossom Sheppard, Marguerite Guye and Luella Proulx. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel, Shelburne with Rev. Sandra Fyfe officiating. Interment of ashes will be in Pine Grove cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Roseway Hospital.

Gaudet, Richard Allen – 89, Tideview Terrace, Digby, formerly of Weymouth North died, April 2 in the home. Funeral was held in St. Peters St. Thomas Anglican Church, Weymouth. Interment in Riverside Baptist Cemetery.

Greta Mildred den Hollander - 78, of Wolfville Nursing home, where she resided, formerly of Waterville, passed away Monday, April 2, 2007 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born August 15, 1928 in Pictou Island, Pictou Co., she was a daughter of the late Duncan and Charlotte (Bishop) MacDonald. In her earlier years she worked as a CNA in Halifax. She moved to Waterville in 1987 where she cared for her family as a homemaker. Greta enjoyed cooking for her company, had a great love for pets and will be remembered as a kind a generous person. She is survived by son, William Wayne (Charlotte), Waterville; beloved granddaughter, Amanda, Stewiacke and a sister, Katherine. She was predeceased by her loving husband Bastiaan; three sisters; five brothers. Visitation for Greta was held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, with a funeral service on Wednesday, April 4 at 2 p.m., both from the H. C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S. B0P 1E0 (902-538-9900). The Rev. Thelma MacLeod officiated. Burial took place in the Waterville Cemetery. Joyce Marie Taylor – 75, of the Wolfville Nursing Home, formerly of Habitant, Kings County, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Wolfville, she was the only child of the late Wilfred and Gladys (Kilcup) Bishop. In addition to being a homemaker, she was employed for a number of years as a switchboard operator with Maritime Tel and Tel. She is survived by her husband, Everett; a daughter, Sherry (Robert Cann) Taylor, Prospect, Kings County; a son, Steven (Wendy), Habitant; three grandchildren, Shannon, John and Aaron and six great- grandchildren. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there was no visitation by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 7, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Reverend David Hewitt officiated. Interment took place in the Habitant Cemetery, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Carl William Dodge – 83, of New Minas, passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side, Tuesday, April 3, 2007. Born in Kitchener, Ontario, he was a son of the late Harold and Effie (Schunamon) Dodge. In his earlier years, he was employed as a mechanic with A. V. Roe (Avro) Canada in Ontario and retired as a custodian with Horton District High School. Carl was also an avid auto mechanic. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Pauline Keddy; two daughters, Juanita and Carolyn, both of New Minas; a son, Stan (Carol), Wolfville; a sister, Dorothy Pelley, Trenton; a brother, Basil (Jean), New Minas; a special grandson, Stewart and a special great-granddaughter, Stephanie, both of New Minas; many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two grandchildren, Dauwayne Dexter and Susan Dexter. He was also predeceased by his faithful dog, Buddy. Visitation was held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007 in the Jaw Bone Corner Cemetery, Canard. Reverend June Keddy is officiating. Family flowers only, by request.
