No better 'buy local' argument

No better 'buy local' argument
Letter to The Advertiser
To the Editor:

This morning I sent the following letter to The Globe and Mail - appropriate for The Advertiser as well?

Re: Beware of fatal heat waves, UN says (Dennis Bueckert, Canadian Press, Globe and Mail 29 March 2007).

"The major railway line that connects Halifax with the rest of Canada runs along about a foot above sea level along the Bay of Fundy. We should be now doing the investments to make those critical transportation facilities less vulnerable by moving them inland."

The highway joining N.S. and N.B. across the Tantramar Marsh in some spots doesn't appear to be even as high as the railway. Do we need a better "buy local" argument for encouraging self-sufficiency? Across the Marsh there is no "inland"!
