WILLS, Florence Winifred - 89, passed on peacefully in Villa Acadienne, Meteghan, early Thursday morning, March 22, 2007, under the tender care of the Villa staff, where she resided during the past several months. Born January 31, 1918, in Dapp, Alta., she was a daughter of the late Frederick Allen (Yarmouth) and Elizabeth Brockie Allen, whose family immigrated to Canada from Scotland early in the 20th century. After the death of her mother when Florence was still a teenager, Frederick Allen returned to manage the family homestead of Captain Paskey Allen in Pembroke with his daughters, Florence and Mildred, and son, Glen. Her sister, Hazel, had married Archie Howie while the family still resided in Alberta. Florence's first marriage was to Keith Shaw Churchill, father of her six children. Their offspring now number 60. After Keith's untimely death at the young age of 49, she met and married Clarence Pitman and after his death, married Eric Wills. She was active in the communities of Sandford and later Overton, and was a member of the Sandford Baptist Church and Sewing Circle. She was also associated with various other volunteer associations, including the Yarmouth Regional Hospital Gift Shop, where she was honoured to receive her 3300 Hour Pin. Predeceased by her parents; brother, Glen; husband, Keith Churchill; son, Keith Alvin Churchill; daughter-in-law, Anne (Watkins); second husband, Clarence Pitman, and sister, Mildred Bain, she is survived by her sister, Hazel Howie, British Columbia; stepsister, Lillian Sweeney, Alberta; daughter, Elizabeth Kelly, Yarmouth; sons, Frederick Ralph (Ronna), Reynardton; Larry Glen (Helen), Australia; John Allen, Halifax; Joseph Malcolm (Emma), Sandford, together with 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held Tuesday, March 27 at 2 p.m. in Sweenys Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Jim Agrell. Visitation was held Monday, March 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Yarmouth Wesleyan Church or a charity of choice. Interment will be in Darlings Lake Cemetery with family members only please. Lyna May Connors – 97, of Kentville, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2007 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Thomas “Tom” and Ethel (Dauphinee) Isner. She was a member of the Kentville United Baptist Church. She was a survivor of the Halifax Explosion and worked at the Met for over 20 years. She knit for the Red Cross, providing much-needed garments during the Second World War. She is survived by three sons, George, Mississauga, Ontario; John (Viola), Fredericton, New Brunswick; Philip (Helen), New Minas; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George; two daughters, Ethel and Phyllis; two sisters, Rita Mapplebeck and Jean Isner; a brother, Claude. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2007. Angela Theresa Taylor (Grainger) R.N. - 64, Grafton, Kings Co. It is with great sadness that the family announces that Angela lost her courageous battle with cancer and passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2007, at home. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Kathleen (Kennedy) Grainger. Angela was brought up in Armdale, where she attended Sister Pius Memorial School. She entered nursing and graduated from the Halifax Infirmary in September 1962. She worked all of her life in nursing and was employed at Janeway Children’s Hospital, Newfoundland, and at hospitals throughout Nova Scotia, including the Grace Maternity, Halifax, Western Kings Memorial, Berwick and her final years as a dedicated O.R. Nurse at the Valley Regional, Kentville. Angela enjoyed walking, bicycling and snow shoeing, but her greatest love was her garden. Angela cherished every moment spent with Morgan and Alex, her two grandchildren, as they were the love of her life. Surviving are her husband, David James Taylor; daughter, Catherine McCarthy, Grafton; grandchildren, Morgan and Alexander McCarthy and their father, Clarence McCarthy, all of Coldbrook; sister, “Frankie” (Greg) Baldwin, Bedford. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Pat Burgess. There was no visitation. There was a memorial service followed by a reception which was held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, in the H. C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0 (902-538-9900). Rev. Charles Bull officiated. Interment will be held at a later date. Flynn, Robie Lawrence, age 81, of Newport Station, Hants County, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2007, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on May 26, 1925, in Newport Station, Hants County, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Robie and Ida (Benjamin) Flynn. Robie retired in 1988, after 40 years of service as stationary engineer at the Newport Corner Naval Radio Station. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in the Canadian Army. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch No. 009. He loved to play his fiddle and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters and all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Mary Ella Parker; daughter, Brenda (Gary Parker), Berwick; son, Stephen (Heather), Ellershouse; son-in-law, Dave Brown, Burdett, Alberta; 7 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Pauline Millett, Halifax; Julie Shaw, Lockhartville; Bernice Blinn, Newport Station; Gladys Galley, Windsor Elms; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Jane Brown; brothers, Gordon and Bert; as well as two brothers in infancy; sisters, Clara Greeno; Doris “Dot” MacBurnie; Velma Hazel and a sister in infancy. Mary Ritchie – 92, of Kentville, formerly of New Waterford, passed away Friday, March 23, 2007 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late John and Flora (McPhee) McPhee. She had been employed with F. W. Woolworth Co. Ltd for a number of years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville and a former member of the Children of Mary, Mount Carmel Parish, New Waterford. Mary is survived by several nieces, nephews and longtime faithful friend, Lila Folker, Kentville. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Leo; sisters, Anna, Elizabeth and two infant sisters; brothers, John D., Stephen, Ronald and John J. Visitation was held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2007 with prayers held at 8:30 p.m. in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Robert Harris Metzler - 87, a long-time resident of New Minas, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 23, 2007, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Medford, he was the son the late David and Bernice (Sherman) Metzler. Robert worked for V.C. Woodworth in construction and in later years for Topline Ventures until the time of his retirement at age 72. He was a veteran member of the New Minas Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years. Robert is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jennie (Higgens) Metzler, New Minas; sons, Wayne, Slave Lake, Alta.; Simon (Melanie), Kentville; daughter, Ann (Sheridan), Kentville; grandchildren, Sassha, Evan, and Haley, and special friend of the family, Morine Fraser, Slave Lake, Alta. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. The memorial service for Robert was held on Monday, March 26, at 11 a.m. in New Minas Baptist Church. Pastor Robert Knowles officiated. BOUDREAU, L. Leona - Born in Yarmouth on October 23, 1918, to Georgina (Amirault) and Fred Boudreau, died in the early morning of March 23, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. She was a graduate of Yarmouth Academy. She resided most of her adult life in Lynn, Mass., where she owned and operated Georgina's Beauty Salon. She loved and was loved by her surviving sister, L. Lillian Keefe, Beverly, Mass.; her brother, Frederick Boudreau, Ware, Mass.; innumerable nieces and nephews; great-great and great-great-great-nieces and nephews, and many friends who all mourn her loss. She was predeceased by three brothers and four sisters. The family received friends 7-9 p.m. Monday, March 26 in Sweeny's Funeral Home. A church service to celebrate Leona's life was held in St. Ambrose Cathedral on Tuesday, March 27, at 10 a.m. Donations in Leona's memory to Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Saunders, Gary Stephen “Glayo” - 61, of Yarmouth, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 24, 2007, at home. Born on October 20, 1945, in New Rochelle, N.Y., he grew up in Yarmouth and was a son of Elizabeth (Killam) Crosby and the late Joseph Fenwick Saunders. Gary was an avid reader. He enjoyed science fiction, history and art. He liked to garden, despite his questionable gardening skills and was an avid debater who loved a spirited discussion on any subject. He collected stamps and enjoyed working on his model trains. Gary graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1973 with a Bachelor of Environmental Design and worked as the Director of Planning for the Yarmouth, Argyle and Barrington District Planning Commission since 1984. He was also the planner for the Municipality of Clare. Most of all, Gary enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by wife, Carolyn (Outhouse), Yarmouth; daughter, Andrea, Yarmouth; brother, Ian (Ann), Bedford; sister, Susan (Charles) Winship, South Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph and his stepfather, Prentice Crosby. Visitation was held Wednesday, March 28 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held Thursday, March 29 at 2 p.m., Rev. A.D. Newell officiated, both were held in Sweeny's Funeral Home. Burial will take place at a later date in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Melba “Mel” S. Crockett (Snyder) — 67, of Veazie, Maine, formerly of Liverpool, Queens County, died Friday, March 23, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. Born April 13, 1939, in Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of Mildred M. (Barnes) Snyder, of Nova Scotia, and the late James D. Snyder. Mel worked in customer service in different retail stores for many years. She was an avid fan of Maine Black Bear Hockey and the Boston Red Sox. She enjoyed the years she spent judging at Speedway 95, and was head judge for the past three years. Mel loved knitting, gardening and doing puzzles, and especially loved the time spent with her grandchildren. Besides her mother, she is survived by two children: daughter, Tanya C. Wentworth (Kevin), of Veazie, and son, Tracy D. Crockett (Robin), of Bangor; two grandchildren, Ashley and Chantal Crockett; four brothers: Jimmy Snyder (Sharon) of Ontario, Wayne Snyder (Audrey) of Nova Scotia, William Synder (Henriette), and Len Snyder (Mary) all of Ontario; two sisters, Cheryl Mansfield and Margo Snyder, both of Nova Scotia. Besides her father, she was predeceased by a brother, Phillip Snyder. A special thanks goes to the staff of Ross Manor and CancerCare of Maine, especially sandy W. of Eastern Maine Medical Centre for their kindness, compassion and care of our mother.
