Jessie Anderson - 85, formerly of Kingston, Kings Co. passed away Thursday March 15, 2007, in the Grand View Manor, Berwick. James Ward Allen — Jim passed away, suddenly in hospital on Saturday, March 17, 2007 in Chilliwack, BC, at the age of 76. He was born December 8, 1930, in Yarmouth, NS. Jim will sadly be missed by Peggy, his wife of 51 years; his daughters, Dawna (Ernie) Mothus, and Candace (Don) Clouthier; grandchildren: Tanya (Shawn) Harnett, Jeremy (Amber) Mothus, Jonathan (Andrea Sladek) Mothus, Tanner Clouthier, Braden Clouthier; great-grandchildren: Sienna Mothus, Connor Harnett, Meadow Mothus, Madison Harnett and Lincoln Mothus; brother, Gilbert (Dorothy) Allen of Billtown, NS; sisters: Barbara Cooper of Fort St. James, BC, and Pat (George) Mansfield, Beamsville, ON; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Hantz and Carol Allen; sister, Eleanor Kempton. Jim was the eldest of five children, who were raised in Milton, Queens County, NS. He joined the Merchant Navy in 1948, and 1952 joined the Armed Forces and pursued a career as a Royal Canadian Engineer. This was a thirty-year career, which saw him serving both in Canada and overseas. He retired in 1982 at the rank of MWOII. Following retirement from the Canadian Forces, he was employed for several years with an associated company of the Bank of Montreal. Jim loved fishing and hunting with his friends, and over the years dabbled in gardening and woodworking. Jim left behind many dear friends, both old and new, who will miss his company and friendship. A “Celebration of Life” was held on Thursday, March 22 at Vedder Royal Canadian Legion; Padre Fred Tassinari officiated. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 280, Poppy Fund.
CROWELL, Andrew Marshall, 50, Baccaro, Shelburne County, passed away suddenly at home on Friday, March 16, 2007. Born in Doctor’s Cove on November 18, 1956, the son of Allen and Evelyn Crowell, Baccaro. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Robin (Coffin), two sons, Christopher (Becky), Barrington Passage and Jamie (Melanie), Thomasville; brother, Shannon (Barbara); sisters, Veronica (Erwin) Ross and Gwendalyn (Percy) Peters; also several nieces and nephews. Andrew was a kind devoted husband and dad to Robin, Christopher (Becky) and Jamie (Melanie). A loving son, brother and uncle. He touched so many hearts and was respected by all. He was employed as a truck driver for R.A. Deon, Pubnico. He also loved to ride his motorcycle. Celebration of Andrew’s life, led by Rev. Shawn Hatfield, was held on March 21, 2007 under the direction of Huskilson’s Funeral Home. Donations may be given to the Arthritis Society.

Ethel M. (Dexter) (Burgess) Crone — 83, of Toronto, Ontario, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2007 at home. Born in Brooklyn, Queens County, on July 12, 1923, she was a daughter of the late John Atwood and Emma (Tupper) Dexter. She was educated in Brooklyn and Liverpool and was a member of the Brooklyn United Baptist Church. In her early years, she was a member of the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. Later she worked at Consolidated Bathurst in Whitby, Ontario. She loved her family dearly and she was cherished and loved by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Jo-Anne (Mike) Raso of Toronto, Ont.; son, James ‘Jim’ (Carley) Burgess of Lower Sackville, NS; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters: Louisa Coombs of Brooklyn, Marie (Dean) Hatt of New Minas; brother, Atwood ‘Put’ (Delphine) Dexter of Brooklyn; sisters-in-law, Hilda Dexter and Phyllis Dexter of Brooklyn, Marjorie Dexter of Liverpool, Eleanor (Clay) Rogers of Hunts Point; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husbands, Cecil D. Burgess and Edgar Crone; brothers, Elvin ‘Dick’ and Samuel ‘Sam’ Dexter; brother-in-law, Gerald Coombs; half-sisters, Valence and Evangeline; and half-brother, Clarence ’Jack’ Dexter. Funeral service was held Thursday, March 22, at Ward Funeral Home "Weston Chapel", Toronto, Ont. A graveside service and interment was held at the Seaside Cemetery, Brooklyn, Queens County, on Friday, March 23; Rev. Greg Denton officiated. A reception and celebration of her life followed at the Brooklyn United Baptist Church vestry. Thanks to all family and friends for their support and kindness through memorial donations, cards, phone calls, and visits, following Ethel’s death.
