The South West Shore Development Authority is evaluating five proposed sites to see which is best suited for a new industrial park in the district of Barrington.
SWSDA has identified the district as the “next logical community” for development as the neighboring communities of Shelburne and Yarmouth both have industrial parks.
The five sites being reviewed are: municipal property obtained from the Barrington Passage Community Club, northwest of the former high school; municipal property at Ridge Road on the north side of Highway 103 near Exit 30; municipal property at Lyle’s Bay near Brown’s Pit Road along Highway 103; any private property available behind Causeway Interiors in Barrington Passage and any private property available on the Wireless Road in Barrington Passage.
Results of the study are anticipated by mid-June.
Louise Halliday, warden for the Municipality of Barrington, says work on the proposal is now up to SWSDA.
“What we have done so far is chosen some sites and have handed those over to the Regional Development Authority (also known as SWSDA). They will be conducting a study to see which sites out of the ones we’ve provided will be the one best suited for the criteria,” she said.
Warden Halliday believes development of the industrial park will be a boost to the region.
“I think that’s the way of the world now – industrial parks, which everyone is attracted to.”
