March 18, 2007 to March 24, 2007 continued Robie Arnold Long – 96, of Davidson Street, Kings County, passed away Monday, March 19, 2007 at home. Born in Black River, he was a son of the late Rupert and Inez (Atwell) Long. Robie spent his entire career farming and working in the woods. He enjoyed dogs, hunting and loved working with horses. He attended and supported the Forest Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Atwell); a sister, Verna Chute, Kentville; a brother, Byron, Kelowna, British Columbia; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five sisters, Mildred, Clara, Dora, Lorna and Frances; three brothers, Alton, Waldo and Clifford. Visitation was held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2007, in the Gaspereau United Baptist Church. Reverend Ellen Hunt officiated. Burial took place in the Gaspereau Cemetery. March 18, 2007 to March 24, 2007 continued ANDERSON, Emma Odessa - 83, of Clarence, NS, passed away Monday, March, 19, 2007 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, NS. Born in Falkland Ridge, NS, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary (Woodbury) Sproule. Emma was a master chef and worked with the Department of Corrections in Ontario for approximately 25 years before retiring to Nova Scotia. She enjoyed music, crocheting and crossword puzzles. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving companion of 16 years, Vance Jackson, Clarence; daughters, Elizabeth Jervis, Toronto; Sue (Robert) Thompson, Toronto; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and long time friend, Rose (Robert) Baltzer, North Williamston. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Anderson; sister, Willa and brother, Frank. Funeral service was held Thursday, March 22, 2007 in the Clarence United Baptist Church, Rev. George Mollins officiated, with cremation to follow. Interment will be held at a later date in the Falkland Ridge Cemetery. By family request, there was no visitation. March 18, 2007 to March 24, 2007 continued Delbert Lorence Pick– 72, of New Minas, formerly of Wolfville Ridge, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at home. Born in White Rock, he was a son of Stella (Pick) Brown, Sackville. Raised by his grandparents, Partlo and Edna Pick, he received his schooling in White Rock. After living in Toronto for a few years, he and his wife moved back to Nova Scotia where he was employed with Havill Brothers, in the Halifax area for 20 years. Upon semi-retirement, Delbert and Bernice operated Pick’s Grocery in Wolfville Ridge, until he was stricken with cancer. During his years in Wolfville, he volunteered with several organizations including the Terry Fox Foundation for the past 10 years and was very active with the C.N.I.B and Lions International. He was also a Deacon and Trustee of the Wolfville Ridge Baptist Church and a member of the Wolfville Silver and Gold Seniors. He is survived by his wife, the former Bernice Everett; two daughters, Debra (Gordon) Arnold, New Minas; Diann Robertson, Waverley; two sons, Stephen (Mary), Fall River; Gregory (Rosemary), Wellington; a brother, Richard (Beverly) Brown, Sackville; seven grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; several nephews. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Visitation was held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2007 with a Lions service held at 7 p.m., all in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2007. Reverend Phil Locke and Reverend Robert Burbidge officiated. A private family burial took place in the Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. Family flowers only, by request. March 18, 2007 to March 24, 2007 continued Murray Garfield Atwater - 72, of Coldbrook, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born July 1, 1934 in Port Williams, he was the son of the late Howard and Elsie Atwater. He was employed for 33 years with Weavex. Upon his retirement in 1995, he thoroughly enjoyed his time with family and friends. Murray was very fond of the outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating, his ATV and he especially enjoyed watching his grandsons play hockey. Until recently Murray shared time with his subdivision friends, walking five miles each day and skated with his wife several times a week. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball in the Aylesford area. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Elizabeth (Liz), daughter Kathleen McNally and son Derek (Karen) Atwater of Kentville; grandchildren, Regina (James) Papp, Massachusetts; Michael McNally-Soucie, Brett and Brady Atwater, Kentville; great-granddaughter, Ella Rose Papp, sisters Jean (Bob) Norman, New Minas; Helen (Gordon) Whalen, New Minas; brothers, Ralph (Eileen), Aylesford; Jerry (Margaret Rose), Port Williams; many nieces and nephews. Murray was predeceased by son Dale, brothers, Wylie and Donald; brother-in-law Kenneth Acker. At his own request, there was no visitation or service. A private family graveside service shall be held at a later date. Family flowers only, please, however donations in Murray’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of choice. Murray’s family wishes to acknowledge and sincerely thank Nova Scotia Paramedics and Medical Communications Centre Staff, EHS Lifeflight, Valley Regional and VG Hospitals ICU and Palliative care physicians, nurses, and respiratory therapists and their many family and friends. March 18, 2007 to March 24, 2007 continued Arthur Ainslie Graves – 73, of Kentville, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2007 in the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late John Warden and Sarah Ann Clara (Richardson) Graves. Arthur was well known as a house painter and also worked for a period of time at the former Nova Scotia Sanatorium, Kentville. Arthur was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved meeting people. He is survived by a son, Jeff (Tanya), Kentville; three sisters, Mildred Purchase, Kentville, Violet Graves, British Columbia, Shirley Roberts, Ontario; a brother, James (Mona), Kentville; two grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Annie and Katie; four brothers, Alfred “Lefty”, John, William and George. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Visitation was held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2007. March 18, 2007 to March 24, 2007 continued Fenwick Andrew Wood – 94, of Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2007 in the home. Born in Coldbrook on February 26, 1913, he was the son of the late John W. Wood and Ethel H. (West) Wood. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He graduated from NSAC in Truro, and for a short time, attended Ontario Agricultural College in Guelph, until he made the decision to return home to help in the operation of the family-owned and operated lumber mill. This became his life-long career. He was known for his expertise as a sawyer, and was well liked and respected for his honesty and fairness in his business dealings. He loved hunting, fishing, and sports, having played goalie for the Coldbrook Hockey Team for many years, and was a member of several ball teams in the area as well. His passion in later years was his cribbage games with his friends, and in particular with his very special friends, Willard and Cecil. For over 50 years, he was a member of the Gyro Club of Kentville, having served for a period of time as President. He is survived by his daughter, Lynda and Dave Davies, Kentville; his son, Darrell and Carol Wood, Kentville; grandsons, Michael Wood, Baltimore, Maryland; Anthony and Abby Wood, North Kingstown, Rhode Island; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen “Honey” (Robinson) in December of 1992; sisters, Margaret Durno and Frances Webber; brothers, George and Jack. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there was no visitation by family request. A memorial service, followed by a reception, was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Reverend Gerald Zinck and Reverend Leon Langille officiated. March 18, 2007 to March 24, 2007 continued Ronald Fraser Lynn, 88, Pembroke, passed away on March 20, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born December 9, 1918 in Inglisville, Annapolis Co., to Harry and Anne (Whitman) Lynn. After the death of his parents at an early age, he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Frank and Ivadell (Whitman) Rhodes. Ron was predeceased by his wife of 48 years Elsie (Hobday) and his sister Eleanor Morrison. Ron served in W W ll with the Royal Canadian Engineers, he participated in the raid on Dieppe where he was wounded and held prisoner of War for the following three years. He was employed as a carpenter with Dresser Minerals Ltd. For 23 years. Was a member of the Masonic Lodge. past Master of the Shore Lodge # 134. Ron was a member of the Grace United Church, Walton where he served for many years as an Elder and was a member of the Middleton Legion # 1. He was a very avid fisherman and hunter. He is survived by his daughters: Nadine (Laurie) Dill, Ellershouse and their children Duane, Devota, Dana and Daryl, Patricia (Lewis) Brimicombe, Hillsvale and their children Ian, Elliott and Alex and Tracey (Garnet) Carey, Reddeer, Alberta and their children Jason and Jamie. Eleven great Grandchildren and Two great great grandchildren Cremation has taken place with no visitation or service by request. Private family Interment of ashes will be held at a later date. Born on May 13, 1921, in Little Tancook, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Norman and Beulah (Rhodenizer) Levy. She was a member of the Evangel Assembly Church. Blanche was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as "Nanny Mac". She is survived by daughters, Patricia (Victor) Landry, Yarmouth; Donna (Walter) Parnell, Arcadia, Yarmouth Co.; son, Michael (Velma), Stellarton; brother, Don Levy, Yarmouth; sister, Beatrice Langille, Bayswater, Lunenburg Co.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank; brothers, Ralph, Victor, and Moyle. Visitation will be held today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will take place Friday at 2 p.m. in the Evangel Assembly Church with Rev. Oral Stewart officiating. Burial will take place in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery at a later date. Born on December 25, 1903 in Boston, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Jennie (MacPherson) Trefry. She was a retired school teacher, retiring from Yarmouth South Centennial School where she taught for 24 years. She was active with Zion United Baptist Church before moving to Charlottetown in 1988. She is survived by daughter, Susan (Colin) Hartling, Charlottetown, P.E.I.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; son, David, and sister, Norma. Visitation will be held Friday, March 23, from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 24, at 11 a.m. in Zion United Baptist Church, Rev. Sister to Frances Bucci (Leo Doucette), Rita (Thomas) Southey, George (Nancy) Hurst, Edith Goodnow, Patricia (Floyd) Boetegger, Harold Hurst. Godmother to one and only godchild, Carmie Brogan. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Frank J. Misener. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, and there was no visitation by family request. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2007 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville. Father Craig Christenson officiated.
