Wedgeport and District Fire Department capture bowling crown
The bowling team representing Wedgeport and district fire department won the YVFD invitational bowling tournament for the sixth time over the past 13 years. T
welve teams took part ranging from the Valley, Clare, Pubnico, Clarks Harbour and Yarmouth and County, they rolled a single game round robin Saturday and Sunday, March 17 and 18. Wedgeport topped the standings with 20 points with the runner up spot going to Carleton, although tied at 16 points with East Pubnico they had a five pinfall edge. The 911 team was fourth with Yarmouth ending fifth. High individual scores went to Brian D’Eon with a 116.2 average, runner up Kevin Leslie 111.7. Men’s high single, a 158 score was rolled by Danny Hennigar, Kendal Reese second at 140. The ladies average went to Natalie Meisner, 106.6 and Shelly Corcum 99.4. Lorna D’Entremont with a 120 and Carole Lowe took the high singles. The high single with no spares or strikes was 92, rolled by Curley Kristensen.



CONGRATULATIONS TO LORAN PENNEY

On April 1 he will be celebrating 36 years of service as a career member of the Yarmouth Fire Department. Once again, Loran, congratulations to you from all of us in the department. He is now the longest-serving staff member of the Town.

RATEPAYERS’ MEETING



The annual ratepayers’ meeting of the Carleton Fire Department will take place at the Carleton Fire hall this Thursday April 5, 7 p.m.



CRAFT SALE



The YFD Auxiliary craft sale is set for Saturday, March 31 and Sunday April 1, 9:30 to 4 p.m., both days. Table reservations can be made by calling Wendy at 742-1350. Door prizes, 50/50 draws and more. Please use the back door at the station where stairs and elevator are available.



EAST PUBNICO MEETING



The regular meeting will be held at their fire hall, Wednesday March 28 at 7:30 p.m.

DATE IN HISTORY



April 2, 1892 a general alarm was sounded at 3 a.m. for a fire which destroyed the two story dwelling at the corner of Main and Butler Streets. The unoccupied structure belonged to the Lonergan Estate. This was the second attempt to burn it. There was no insurance. The town council offered a reward of $100 for conviction of the incendiary.
