March 11, 2007 to March 17, 2007 WAGNER, Eleanor Hatfield, 92, Bedford, died peacefully on March 11, 2007 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Eleanor was a wonderful woman whose love, generosity, attentiveness and creativity enriched all who came in contact with her. Over the years her creative talents took many forms, including beautiful clothes for her growing daughters and one-of-a-kind gifts for their friends and her grandchildren. She donated finger puppets and neo-natal caps to the IWK, children’s comfort quilts to the Linus Project, and also created works of art in needlepoint, macramé, ceramics and stained glass. She was a loving woman whose light still shines, and we will miss her greatly. Born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Eleanor was the youngest child of Oscar and Grace (Hatfield) Carey. Predeceased by her sisters Alice and Lorraine, and by her dear brother Charles, she is survived by her daughters Dale Wagner (Toronto) and Pat Hannigan (Waverley), her “adopted” daughter Alice Foster (Toronto), her grandchildren Sheila (Montreal), Barbara (Amsterdam), Brian (Colleen) (Vancouver) and Neil (Monique) (Halifax), and by her six great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. We have many people to thank. Eleanor was especially fond of those who made her life at home or in hospital so much easier – her good neighbours at Bedford Manor, including Little Tykie, the faithful visitors from Bedford United Church, the Meals on Wheels volunteers, the Telecare friends who phoned daily and the members of the Northwood Home Care team whose personal attention helped her for many years and especially in the last eight months. And a special thank you from the family to Dr. Leckey, her family physician, to the VON nurses and to the doctors and nurses at Dartmouth General Hospital who gave her compassionate and sensitive care during the last six weeks of her life.
