March 4, 2007 to March 10, 2007 continued Ralph Bennie Redden - 83, New Minas passed away Friday, March 9, 2007 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in North Alton he was a son of the late Gordon and Nora (Hiltz) Redden. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice (Folks) Redden; son Richard (Dorothy), Kentville; daughter Sheila Veinotte, Morden; granddaughter Christina (Don) Savoie, Dalhousie, NB; sisters Eileen Wamboldt and Reta Lloyd, both of Canaan and Lucy (Jouke) Pietersma, Ontario and Florida. Besides his parents Ralph was predeceased by an infant son Edward and brother Arthur. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at 2 p.m. in North Alton Baptist Church. Rev. Gerald Zinck and Rev. Jennifer Riley officiated. The family greeted relatives and friends at a reception that followed the service. A private interment will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. March 4, 2007 to March 10, 2007 continued Lester Dimock McLearn – 76, of Black River, Kings Co. passed away peacefully March 9th 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in South Rawdon, Hants Co., he was a son of the late Watson and Belle (Weldon) Mc Learn. Lester worked for 10 years with Standard Paving and then became a loom operator working at Weavexx from where he retired. Lester was an avid woodsman and was a daily patron at the Snack Shack in Kentville. He is survived by four sons: Stephen (Judy), Greenwich; Francis (Tara Lee), Black River; Wendell (Yvonne), Melanson; Dale (Tammie), Woodville; two daughters: Darlene (Jim) Hennigar, Forest Hill; Cheryl (Wade) Sommers, Port Williams; six grandchildren: Jennifer, Jeffrey and Brian Hennigar; Josh and Joel Mc Learn and Mitchell Sommers; two brothers: Clyde Mc Learn, South Rawdon; Robert (Sally), Mount Uniacke; four sisters: Edna Curry, South Rawdon; Doris Wile, Windsor; Norma Collier, Ellershouse; Bernice Lochau, South Rawdon. Lester was predeceased by his wife,Shirley (Mason) Mc Learn. Visitation took place March 15 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Drive, Coldbrook (Exit 14). The funeral service took place at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 13th in the Gaspereau United Baptist Church, Gaspereau. Rev. Mark Shaw officiated. Interment will take place at a later date in the South Rawdon United Baptist Church Cemetery, South Rawdon. Family flowers only. March 4, 2007 to March 10, 2007 continued Bertram Norris Greene – 70, of Cape Blomidon, Kings County, passed away Friday, March 9 at home, surrounded by his family. Born in Delhaven, he was a son of the late Norris and Agnes Elizabeth “Pearl” (Winter) Greene. Bert was a proud native of Cape Blomidon, Kings County, Nova Scotia and Canada. While maintaining a small farm and woodlot operation, Bert devoted 34 years to his career with Canada Post, first as Postal Clerk in Canning and later in the position of Post Master in Centreville. It was an ideal choice, as it placed him where he liked to be, with people. Upon retirement, he was elected to Kings County Council in 1991, active on many committees and chairing several. He served as chairman of the Board of both Grand View Manor, Berwick and Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre, Assistant Coordinator of Emergency Measures Organization of Kings County, Executive Committee, Valley Waste Resources Committee, Planning Committee, Economic Development, Waterville Airport Committee and the Police Advisory Board of Kings County. His involvement in local community activities included many years as a minor hockey coach, playing with the Canning Suburban Hockey League, Secretary/Treasurer Canning and District Rural Fire Commission, Volunteer Fire Department member, CAPRE Vice-Chair, chairman of the Blomidon Cemetery Commission, member of the Pereaux Baptist Church and the Canning District Recreation Commission Chair. In addition, Bert also served as a member of the Woodlot Owners Association of Nova Scotia, Group Committee of Scouts Canada and spent many years as the local member of the Canadian Civil Defence. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Gloria Faylene Steele; three daughters, Pamela (Ron) Clarke, Hillaton; Marlene (Cameron) Lightfoot, New Minas; Paula (John) Lunn, Windsor Forks; two sons, Barry, Cape Blomidon; Darryl (Judy Brittain), Aylesford; three sisters, Doris Haine (Philip Plourde), New Hampshire; Flora Seamone, Kentville; Joan (Clyde) Lunn, Mount Denson; nine grandchildren, Ashley Greene, Matthew, Mark and Luke Clarke, Charmaine and Gregory Lightfoot, Faylene and Johnathan Lunn, Candace Vaughan; daughter-in-law Dana Greene; and many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Christine Elizabeth Lightfoot, and two brothers-in-law, Royce Seamone and Carl Haine. Visitation was held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2007 and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the celebration of Bert’s life, followed by a reception, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2007. Reverend Doctor Mark Parent, Reverend Doctor Millard Cherry and Reverend Derek Langille officiated. A private family burial took place in the Blomidon Cemetery at Huston Beach. March 4, 2007 to March 10, 2007 continued COLEMAN, Floyd Woodrow “Buddy” - 48 of South Farmington, Annapolis County passed away Friday, March 9, 2007 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middleton, he was a son of Joyce (Sherman) Coleman, Nictaux and the late Harry Coleman. Buddy had been employed for many years with the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation. He was a former member of the Mid-Annapolis Valley Kinsmen Club. An avid sports enthusiast through out his life, he played baseball, bowled and curled. He particularly enjoyed the time he spent with his brothers hunting and fishing, while at the camp on Joe Simon Lake. Besides his mother Joyce, Buddy is survived by his wife the former Patricia Leslie, Kingston; daughter Caitlin, Cornwallis and son Shane, Halifax. Sisters Pamela (Jim Brooks) Coleman, Nictaux; Shelley (Francis Drake) Wotton, Dartmouth. Brothers Jerry (Linda Baltzer) and Chester (Marilyn) both of Nictaux. He was predeceased by a brother Harley. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 13, 2007 in the Middleton Funeral Home (902) 825-3448, Rev. Bill McLeod officiated. March 4, 2007 to March 10, 2007 continued George William Rogers – 93, formerly of Canning, Kings County, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2007 in the Veteran’s Unit of Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Canning, he was a son of the late Oscar and Emily (Smith) Rogers. He was a Veteran of the Second World War and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Habitant Branch No. 73, Canning. Following the war, he was a blacksmith by trade and was employed with Blenkhorn’s Axe Factory. He retired from CFB Greenwood, where he worked as a tradesman in refrigeration. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was known to all as “Gramps”. He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Barkhouse, Canning and Rosaline Rogers, British Columbia; two sons, Wayne (Judy), British Columbia and Eugene (Andrea), Medford; three sisters, Dorothy Taylor, Kingsport; Helen Kervin, Berwick; Elizabeth (Delbert) Gates, Sudbury, Ontario; two brothers, Lemuel Rogers, New Glasgow and Oscar (Doris) Rogers, Centreville; two sisters-in-law, Jean Rogers, New Minas and Evelyn “Bobby” Rogers, Canning; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Geraldine Legge; his second wife, the former Eileen Dickie; a daughter, Sheila Spinney; a great-grandson, Ricky Barkhouse; two brothers, Clifton and Miller; a sister, Jean Gardner, his In-laws, A.C. “Joe” Taylor, Robert Kervin, James Gardner and Ann Rogers. There was no visitation by family request. A combined Royal Canadian Legion and funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. March 4, 2007 to March 10, 2007 continued Phyllis Blanche Prest – 63, of Kentville, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 10, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Mildred (Benjamin) Harrison. She had been trained as a Registered Nurse and was employed at Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville as the Director of Nursing. She devoted her life to looking after others. She is survived by her husband, Clifton, Kentville; a daughter, Karla Prest (Michael Thomas), Ontario; a son, Blaine Prest (Shona Davidson), Kentville; a brother, Gordon (Beverly) Benjamin, Yarmouth; four grandchildren, Melissa, Paula, Patricia and Haylie. Visitation was held from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2007. March 4, 2007 to March 10, 2007 continued Leslie Wayne “Les” Best – 58, of West Brooklyn, Kings County, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Berwick, he was a son of Gladys (White) Veinot, Wolfville Ridge, Kings County and the late Norman Best. He had worked as a bricklayer since the 1960’s and was employed with Carey Brothers Masonry and Daiden Construction. He was a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Union, Local No. 1. He enjoyed hockey, fishing and four wheeling with his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Daigo”. He is survived by his wife, the former Deborah “Debbie” Pinch; a son, Richard, his daughter, Caitlyn, Richmond, Ontario; four daughters, Kimberly (Lloyd) Pineo, their children, Chelsea and Ty, Sheffield Mills; Lesley Anne (Ian)) McMahon, their children, Tyson, Lucas, Levi and Kaylee, West Brooklyn; Tiffany (Brian) Blenus, their children, Isaac, Abigail and Mia, West Brooklyn and a daughter Michelle, Wolfville Ridge; two guardian sons, Kenneth “Mitch” Noseworthy and son Ryan, Waterville; Steven (Belinda) Gates, Gaspereau; two guardian daughters, Stacey McLean and daughter, Courtney, Shediac, New Brunswick and Tammy (John) West and their children, Hannah and Jared, Berwick. He was a special Dad to Elisha Coldwell for many years. He is also survived by four sisters, Joan Davidson, Wolfville; Barb (Brian) Reid, Wolfville Ridge; Jackie Veinot, Fredericton, New Brunswick; Angela Veinot, Vernon, British Columbia; two brothers, Malcolm “Mac” Gale, Toronto, Ontario and Norman, Washington D.C.; special aunt, Phyllis Beck, Bridgewater; special uncle, Jack White, England. He will be greatly missed by his dog, Sophie. He was predeceased by an infant sister; a brother, Billy; twin granddaughters, Madison and Emma Gates; a nephew Frank Reid; a niece, Candina Reid and his step-father, Ralph Veinot. March 4, 2007 to March 10, 2007 continued GRAY, Lily Sophia - 89, of Kemptville, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully in Tidal View Manor on March 10, 2007. Prior to her short stay at Tidal View, she lived with her sons, John and then Graydon in Kemptville. She was born in Bangs Falls on June 13, 1917. She was a daughter of the late Rev. Frederick Charles and Eva May (Joudrey) Burnett. Lily was a member of Kemptville United Baptist Church. She was a retired school teacher and was a member of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Steadman and her youngest son, John Harold; 10 year old brother, John Burnett; half-sister, Dolly Mood, and her half-brother, Reginald Burnett. She is survived by children, Sylvia J. (Clarence) Roberts, Carleton, and Graydon F. (Elaine), of Kemptville;daughter in-law Margaret Gray of Kemptville; half-sisters, Queenie Fuller and Connie Fredette; half-brothers, Rev. Frederick Burnett and Dr. Ralph Burnett; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held today from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. The funeral was held Tuesday, March 13, at 2 p.m. in Kemptville United Baptist Church, Rev. Rick Warner and Rev. Bev Densmore officiated. Burial took place in Lakeview Cemetery, Kemptville. March 4, 2007 to March 10, 2007 continued AUCOIN, Edouard "Eddie" Francois – 83, a resident of Foyer Père Fiset, Cheticamp, died March 4, 2007 in Cheticamp. Born in St. Joseph du Moine, he was a son of the late Méderick à Joe and Brigitte (Deveau) Aucoin. He was a veteran of the Second World War, Regiment de la Chaudière, serving from 1941 to 1945 in France, Belgium and Holland. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved to garden, walk, dance and operate his 1951 International tractor. He worked in the Cape Breton National Park for 29 years, and with snow equipment in the winter. He was a member of St. Peter’s parish, the Canadian Legion Branch #32 and Club des Retraités. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Henriette (Leblanc) Aucoin; sons, Michel (France), Grand Étang; Réné (Shelly), Cheticamp; Robert, Halifax; Réjean (Yolande), Cheticamp; Cyril (Sally), Cheticamp; Gérard (Joan), Mount Pearl, NF; Claude (Diane), Digby; daughter, Nicole (Shawn), Heatherton; brothers, Georgie, Grant Étang; Joseph Henri, St. Joseph du Moine; Albert, Bangor, ON; and Lionel, Toronto, ON; sisters, Lorraine (Patrice) Aucoin, Mississauga; Marrie- Jeanne (Daniel) Chiasson, Toronto; grandchildren, Brigitte, Jacynthe, Jean- Michel, Nicolas, Antoine, Arielle, Karina, Karolyn, Rachelle, Hayley, André and Marcelle.
