February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued POWER, Bernard Isaac - 91, Tidal View Manor, formerly of Pembroke, Yarmouth Co., passed away February 9, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on July 27, 1915, in Pembroke, he was a son of the late Robert Bernard and Alice Bertha (Kendrick) Power. He was a member of Yarmouth North United Baptist Church. Bernard was a member of the Diamond Lodge, IOOF. He was also a member of the Rebekahs. Bernard was a fisherman for most of his working life. He is survived by his wife, Thelma; daughter, Beverly (Benjamin) Hamilton, South Ohio; sons, Kenneth (Debbie Atwood) and Harold (Cindy), both of Pembroke; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his half-brother, Captain Irvin, and his half-sister, Katie. Visitation was held Monday, February 12 from 7-9 p.m. and the funeral was held Tuesday, February 13 at 2 p.m., both in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. A.D. "Bill" Newell officiated. Burial will take place in the spring in Chegoggin Cemetery. Donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued SHIPLEY, Erwin Thompson, B.A., M.A — 93, Kentville, Kings County, passed away Friday, February 9, 2007, in the Evergreen Home For Special Care, Kentville. Born on July 27, 1913, in Brookdale, Cumberland County (near Amherst), he was a son of the late Wilbert and Florence (Tuttle) Shipley. Erwin moved to Londonderry, Colchester County, at the age of nine. In Erwin’s early years he liked to fish with friends, but later curling was his passion and watching ball games. He graduated from Colchester County Academy and then proceeded to Normal College (Teacher’s College), Truro, for his teaching license. He began teaching at the early age of 18 in Grand River, Cape Breton, with 50 students in Grades one to 11. After teaching a few years, he attended Mount Allison University, NB, and received his B.A. degree. Later Erwin attended summer schools at Acadia University, Wolfville, Kings County, and obtained his M.A. degree. He taught mostly High School History, Social Studies, Economics, French and Latin over a period of 37 years, as well as coaching basketball, curling, debating club and many other sports when needed. Erwin taught in Londonderry, Maccan, Tufts Cove, Lunenburg, Pictou, Liverpool (18 years) and Windsor. For many years, he was on the Provincial Marking Board for the Grade XI and Grade XII Provincial Exams. After retiring from teaching, Erwin formed a Nova Scotia Products Shop at Glenholme, but later began distributing the NS-made handcrafts to tourist shops throughout NS. This job involved traveling to all parts of NS for the next 27 years. At age 92, Erwin began singing and could remember the words to many old songs. He kept informed about world events and former students and friends to the end. Surviving are his nephew, William Cecil (Beatrice) Shipley of Kingston, Kings County; great-nephews, Robert Dustin Shipley of Emporia, Kansas, USA, Jason Robert Shipley of Wichita, Kansas, USA; great-niece, Andrea Lorraine Shipley, serving in the US Navy; cousin, Barbara (Dean) Walker of Aylesford, Kings County Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Dr. C. Morton Shipley; sister-in-law, Bertha (Conrad) Shipley, R.N. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation or memorial service by request. Interment will take place at a later date in the Wentworth Centre Cemetery, Cumberland County. Memorial donations may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses, Annapolis Valley Branch, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of ones choice. The family would like to thank all those kind people, who have given Erwin home support, nursing, doctoring and friendship over recent years. Your care was greatly appreciated. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued Sharon Anne Harkness - 64, of New Minas, passed away Friday, February 9, 2007 at home. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of Alice “Honey” (Veinot) Kyte, Port Williams and the late Ben Kyte. She was a teacher and musician who was kind-hearted, loving and giving. She had a love for family and especially adored her granddaughter. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Neil) Grant, St. Stephen, New Brunswick; a granddaughter, Ainsley; a brother, Dick, Kentville; a special niece, Shannon (Bill) Buick, and their son, Josh, Port Williams. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter; a sister, Sylvia Mawhinney; a brother, Bert. Visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where a funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2007. Reverend John McNally officiated. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Kentville United Baptist Church. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued Robert Manuel “Bob” Boyd - 75, of Kentville, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 9, 2007 at home. Born in Corner Brook West, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Austin and Amy (Manuel) Boyd. He was a graduate of Dalhousie University, Halifax, where he received a Commerce Degree. He was employed as a manager with Canada Packers in Corner Brook and later as Vice President of Sales with H.B. Nickerson in North Sydney, Cape Breton, from where he retired. He was a successful businessman. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, the former, Esther Jorgensen; a daughter, Tina (Jason) Fuller, Kentville; a son, Robert (Paula), Dartmouth; three grandchildren, Maya, Hannah and Parker; a sister, Dorothy (Dr. Murray) Nixon, Halifax. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by family request. A memorial service followed by a reception was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Burial will take place at a later date. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to the New Minas Food Bank. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.

Born in Three Mile Plains, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Grace (Lantz) Boyd. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and was very devoted to her home and family. Mary‚s warm smile and presence will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Mary is survived by her loving husband, Laurie; son, Bruce (Nancy), Gaspereau; sisters, Dorothy Redden, Dartmouth; Cora Doggett, Victoria, B.C.; sister-in-law, Alice Akin, Windsor; brother, Hadley (Una) Boyd, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Vicki, Shelley (Jeff), John (Lia); great-grandson, Shay Seward. Mary was predeceased by sisters, Elsie Dearman and Joyce Dunn. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued Harry Alexander “Alex” Veinot - 73, of Pereau, Kings County, passed away peacefully, Saturday, February 10, 2007 at home, surrounded by his family. Born in Ohio (Lake Pleasant), Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Bertram and Alma (Emeneau) Veinot. He was initially employed with Nova Scotia Power in Nictaux and then worked for the poultry division of Archibald Farms Limited for 26 years, retiring in 1980 due to ill health. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Dorothy Stoddart; three daughters, Diane (David) Fuller, Blomidon; Gail (Lenny) Barkhouse, Scott’s Bay Road; Patricia (Wendell) Brewster, Centreville; a son, Ivan (Doreen), Inglisville, Annapolis County; a grandson raised by Alex and Dorothy, Chris (Jasmina), Halifax; nine additional grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by two sisters, Winnifred Whynott and Doris Veinott; three brothers, Bertram, Frank and Reginald; two grandsons, Tyler and Ryan. Visitation was held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2007. Reverend Derek Langille officiated. Burial took place in the Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown, Annapolis County. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued CRUDDAS, Clarissa P. — 70, of Liverpool, Queens County, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2007, in Queens General Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Born in Liverpool, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Violet (Boyd) Lundrigan. Clarissa was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, James; son, James (Janice) of Head of Chezzetcook; daughter, Lori (Dwight) Wolfe of Prince George, BC; grandchildren: Joshua, Hannah Mae, Emma, Amelia and Elizabeth; sisters: Gail (Frank) Jack of Liverpool, Ruth Snow and Tina Reynolds, both of Dartmouth, and Jean Turner of Milton; brother, Jordan of Liverpool. She was predeceased by sisters: Patsy, Elizabeth, Marguerite and Vera; brothers: Cleo, Ralph, Roger, Michael and Leslie. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Funeral service was held Friday, Feb. 16 in Trinity Anglican Church, Liverpool; Rev. Arthur Nash officiated. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued Hayes, Bernadette Marie – passed away peacefully on Feb. 10, 2007 in her 77th year, at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center, Toronto. She was born in Lake Doucette, N.S. but lived her adult life in Ontario. Bernie had worked 20 years as administrative director at the Newman Centre, the Catholic Chaplaincy at the University of Toronto. On June 3, 1996 she humbly received the Bene Mercenti Medal, a papal honour. She also was a member of the Catholic Women's League. Predeceased by parents Laura & Augustin; husband, Gerry of 51 years; brothers, Leo & Regis. Bernadette's unconditional love, strength, courage and how she embraced life will serve as an inspiration to all who knew her. She'll be sadly missed by many relatives and friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and song. Especially by daughter, Carolyn (Dwight); son, Greg (Lise); granddaughter, Laura Ashley; sister, Antoinette (late Walter) Muise; brother, Neri (May) Deveau. A memorial mass was held Feb. 17, 2007 at St. Joseph's Church, Toronto.
