The E-Bay pledge at Our House

Our House Youth Wellness Centre in Shelburne has launched a new program to raise money for its many programs and services.
An E-Bay auction Donation Program has started with a generous pledge from James Graham and Pat Miller of a wooden sailing boat once owned by Robert MacNeil, the famous journalist and anchor who paired with Jim Lehrer to create the MacNeil/Lehrer Report in 1975.

In exchange for any pledges or donations, Our House will provide a tax receipt.

Our House Director, Ed Cayer pointed out the item would only be sold for fair market value.

Mary Perry has been hired full-time specifically for the program. One of her responsibilities is to accrue rating points for their membership to E-Bay to establish Our House as good sellers as well as handling the entire selling process.

They are asking only for quality items with value to be pledged.

“The advantage is Our House gets cash and the donor gets the tax receipt,” explained Cayer. “It is a practical way for our organization to make money and people can get satisfaction in contributing to the work we are doing.”

Cayer offered an example of extra acreage.

“The concept is,” explained Cayer, “people tend to accumulate things to be sentimental or of value to pass on to their children or grandchildren only to realize they (descendants) have no interest in them.”

He added many of the valuables end up in garage sales and are not sold for what they’re worth.

Cayer assures each item will be sold at fair market price or above or else the item will be returned to the owner.
