February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued Mildred Louise “Moody” Robinson R.N. - 87 Berwick, passed away at Wolfville Nursing Home on Wednesday February 7, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Mildred (McNeill) Forsyth. Moody was a long-time resident of Berwick, living in the Orchard View Apartments in Berwick, before moving to the Wolfville Nursing Home. She was a member of Christ Anglican Church, Berwick and Mayflower Chapter # 2, Order of the Eastern Star, Aylesford. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Yarmouth General Hospital. Surviving are children Jeannette (Ken) Gould, Stoney Plain, AB; Richard “Dick” (Debbie) Robinson, Edmonton AB; Victor (Cindy) Robinson, Halifax; William “Bill” (Bonnie) Robinson, Fredericton NB; John (Marilyn) Robinson, Waterville; Fred Robinson, Waterville and Dawn Robinson, Dartmouth; brothers Eugene “Gene” (Marjorie) Forsyth, Castle Rock, Colorado; Clair (Nora) Forsyth, London, Ont.; George (Carolyn) Forsyth, Lake Placid, Florida/Harbourville; sister, Betty (Harold) Calkin, Berwick; grandchildren Chris, Carrie, Barclay, Kyla, Emily, Andrew, Sarah, Alex, Erin, Hailey, Evan, Bethany; great grandchildren Ethan, Riley and Allison; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Moody was also predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years the former mayor of Berwick, R. Earle Robinson and sister, Helen. There will be no visitation by family request and a private service will be held in the Berwick Cemetery at a later date, with Rev. Elizabeth Johnson officiating. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued Leola Marie “Lee” Miller - passed away serenely at 85 years of age. Born to Melvin Douglas Benjamin and Fannie Rae Fielding, she was raised in Kentville along with a sister, Florence and a brother, Blake, who both predeceased her. Married to George Arnold “Dusty” Miller of Kentville, who then served in the Second World War as a CPO/Paymaster for the RCN in Cornwallis. At war’s end Lee embarked on the life of a Royal Banker’s wife and they were transferred in succession from Kentville to Summerside, Halifax, Sydney, Waterville, Baddeck and Harvey Station. The last transfer for Arnold was as Manager of Foreign Exchange at Ottawa Head Office. Lee and Arnold retired back home to Kentville in 1976 and Arnold died prematurely at the age of 60 in 1978. Lee continued to live in Kentville until two years ago when she entered the Windsor Elms. Lee is survived by her only son, Douglas, who is currently mourning the death of his wife, Donna on January 22, 2007. Lee is also survived by two grandsons, Keith of Halifax and Brent of Moncton; two step-grandchildren, Cameron Bales of Ottawa and Christine Bales of Glen Margaret. Lee looked forward to summer sojourns at her cottage at Aylesford Lake with life-long friends and neighbours who recharged her spirits. Above all she will be cherished as a devoted wife and mother. Words fall short of the affection shown to Lee from her friend Jean Johnston and the nursing staff at Windsor Elms. Visitation was held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where a funeral service followed by a reception was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 10, 2007. The Reverend Doctor Randy Crozsman officiated. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Windsor Elms. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued BROOKS, Roy Paul Leslie – 36, Middleton, died tragically on February 8, 2007 in Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. Roy suffered a severe head injury as a result of a motor vehicle accident and passed away peacefully with his mother at his side. Roy touched all of our lives in a special way. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a kind, generous loving man who dearly loved his family, especially his two young nephews. He will be thought of fondly by us all for his love of life (especially curling and food), his strong work ethic, his great sense of humour and his loud, boisterous laugh. We are all thankful that he had a short glimpse of a hearing world that he had always dreamed of experiencing following his cochlear implant 2 months ago. Roy was born in England and moved to Middleton in 1980. He is survived by his parents, Janet and Roger Brooks; sister, Jane Brooks (Eric Balser); nephews, John Balser and Ned Brooks; uncle, Jeffery Pocock and countless friends. Special thanks to the staff at the QEII Intensive Care Unit, especially Pam Hughes and Jean, and Drs. Rob Green, Rick Hall and Ian Fleetwood. Also, a big thank you to Drs. Paul MacLean, Don Craswell and Irene Moore as well as all of the nursing staff at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. The family extends great thanks to all of our friends who have been so supportive during this difficult time. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued GILLIS, Florence Matilda – 95, of Lake LaRose, NS passed away on Friday, February 9, 2007 in North Hills Nursing Home, Granville Ferry. Born in West Dalhousie she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rita (Medicraft) Buckler. Florence was dearly loved by her family and was thought of as a “saint”. She loved to cook and enjoyed gardening – flowers and vegetables. She had a knack of pulling together a full course meal whenever anyone dropped by unexpectedly. Florence always made everyone feel welcome. She is survived by her sons, Herald Gillis and Gerald Gillis, both of Bridgetown; brother, Warren Buckler, West Dalhousie; daughter-in-law, Madge (Gillis) Burns, Greenwood; grandchildren, Mary (Anthony) Page, Cornwallis, Bill (Patricia) Gillis, Nictaux, Richard (Carla) Gillis, Torbrook, H. Ann Gillis (Steven Franklin), Victoria Beach, Michael (Marg) Gillis, Torbrook; special nephew and caregiver, Sherman Hudson, Annapolis Royal, 11 great grandchildren; 12 great great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and cousin, Lillian Buckler, Bridgetown. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued ANTHONY, Robert “Bob” Wendell CD. — 84, of Mill Village, Queens County, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2007, in the Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born in Mill Village, he was a son of the late Raymond and Flora (Manthorne) Anthony. At age 20, Bob joined the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and served the duration of the war in Europe. Specifically, France, Belgium, Holland and was in Emden, Germany on Victory in Europe Day. Back home in Canada, Bob spent most of his life working for the Bowater Mersey Paper Company, first as a security guard, then Police and Fire Chief and finished his time with Bowater as lead chauffer. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Elizabeth Page; daughters, Chery Lee of Port Alberni, BC, Wendy (Fred) Wamboldt of Mill Village; sons: David (Sherry) of Victoria, BC, Michael of Halifax, Tony (Sandra) of Tofield, AB; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Enid (Eugene) Pike and Margaret (Vaughn) Dauphinee, both of Liverpool. Born in Ellershouse, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Elizabeth (Dill) Chapman. She is survived by sister, Helen Harvie, Halifax; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robie; sisters, Abbie Shiers and Ina Hazel; brothers, Herbert, Alonzo, Timothy, and Roger. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued Helen Isabelle Hopkins - 89, Windsor, formerly of South Rawdon, East Hants, passed away suddenly in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, on Tuesday, February 6, 2007. Born in Halifax, on December 3, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Charles "Tom" and Gertrude (Fenerty) Payne. Helen lost her father in the Halifax Explosion three days after her birth, and her mother only weeks later. She was subsequently raised in Sackville by her maternal grandparents, the late Arthur and Isabelle Fenerty. Upon her marriage to the late Elmer Granville Hopkins in 1936, they lived their entire married life on Elmer's family farm in South Rawdon where they ran a successful poultry operation and raised two daughters, Gertrude and Joan, along with Ralph Romans (Carolyn), British Columbia, who was like a son and brother to the family. After the passing of her husband, Elmer, in 1993, Helen remained living on the farm until 2001, when she moved in with her daughter, Gertrude, in Scotch Village until 2006, when she and Gertrude moved to Windsor. Helen had many interests and was actively involved in her community. She was an accomplished artist, a stamp and coin collector and had a passion for antiques. She was an avid gardener and received a provincial award for "Rural Beautification". Helen took pride in her property and surroundings. She was a member of Natures Trust Heritage Society. She was also a member of The Sons of Temperance and Women's Institute, where she received an award of recognition for over 50 years of dedicated service. She also served her country in the Second World War as a member of the RCAF Ground Corps. She was an ardent supporter of the South Rawdon Museum. Helen successfully completed the St. John's Ambulance and Home Nursing Courses which gave her accreditation to care for many family and friends over the years. For many years, she was an active member of South Rawdon United Baptist Church. One of Helen's greatest accomplishments was the publication of her book in 2000, "Take My Hand", a personal account of her life experiences. Helen was truly a social entertainer at heart, a wonderful cook. All would agree that after a visit with Helen, you were left with a satisfied belly, an uplifted spirit, and an open invitation to return soon to sign her guest book and to indulge in the menu of the day. Helen will be sadly missed but always remembered. Helen is survived by daughters, Gertrude Lane, Windsor; Joan (Earl) Canham, Ottawa; grandchildren, Brian (Maria) Kyle, Kleinberg, Ont.; Mitchell (Dawn) Lane, East Uniacke; Lisa (Jason) MacAvoy, Ardoise; great-grandchildren, Steven Lane, Amanda MacAvoy, Alexander and Sara Kyle. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Elmer Hopkins; brother, Kenneth Payne, and son-in-law, Ronnie Lane. No visitation by request. A memorial service was held on Saturday, February 10, at 2 p.m. in South Rawdon United Baptist Church. Rev. Clarence Bungay officiated. A reception followed. Private family interment took place in South Rawdon United Cemetery following the reception. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued PULSIFER, Thelma Alice, 87 years of Springhill, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2007 at All Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in Falmouth on January 20, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Maurice and Susie (Wile) Houghton. Thelma lived mainly in Hantsport, Kentville and Springhill and was an active member of the Baptist Church in all communities. She served as treasurer of a number of organizations, including Springhill IODE and The Springhill Curling Club. Thelma is remembered as an excellent bridge player, cook and a superb wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband Robert Pulsifer; son Cameron (Diana Pepall) Pulsifer of Ottawa and daughter Sandra (Terry) Murphy of Halifax; grandchildren, Gillian Murphy of Ottawa, Simon Pulsifer of Toronto, Timothy Murphy of Halifax and Andrew Pulsifer of Ottawa; Aunt Alice Akin of Windsor; Uncle Laurie Cameron of Falmouth; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Albert and Alfred; sisters, Marjorie and Kathleen. Cremation has taken place under the direction of A.H. Brown Funeral Service, Springhill. Visitation was held on Saturday, February 10, 2007, followed immediately by a Memorial Funeral Service, both held at the Springhill Baptist Church, Church Street, Springhill. Officiated by Reverend Perry Hanley. Burial in River Bank Cemetery, Hantsport, NS at a later date. The family would like to thank the Medical Unit staff of Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre and All Saints Hospital Palliative Care. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued Grace Leona Kinsman - 93, of the Wolfville Elms, formerly of New Minas, passed away, Thursday, February 8, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Alice (King) Nix. Prior to her marriage, she had been employed with Windsor Textiles. She was a member of the Good Neighbour Club in New Minas and a devout Christian. She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn (Cecil) Davidson, West Brooklyn; a son, Douglas (Verna), Oromocto, New Brunswick; six grandchildren, Stephen, Charmaine and Darren Kinsman, Kirk Starratt, Karen Pyke and Albert Starratt; four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde; a sister, Dorothy DeBarrs; a brother, Harry Nix. There will be no visitation by family request. A funeral service followed by a reception was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 11, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Reverend Gail Whalen-Dunn officiated. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued BLINKHORN, Arthur Lawrence - 77, Sandy Point, Shelburne County, died on Thursday, February 8, 2007 in Roseway Hospital, Sandy Point. Born in Detroit, Michigan on July 23, 1929, he was the eldest son of the late Arthur and Agnes (LeBlanc) Blinkhorn. Lawrence served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 21 years. He worked for the Department of National Defense for 15 years at CFS Shelburne. He was a member of the Shelburne Legion Branch #63. Lawrence received his 50-year pin in November 2006. He was also a member of the Atlantic Chief and Petty Officers Association, the Public Service Superannuation Association, the Nova Scotia Liberal Party and was a long-standing member of St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church, Shelburne. Lawrence will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Thelma (Rasmusssen), sons, Wayne (Cheryll), Blaine (Anne), Shane (Wendy), all of Sandy Point and Tremaine (Sherry), Stellarton; grandchildren, Lauren, Chalmers, Matthew, Darius, Daniel, Benjamin and Gabrielle and great grandson Brandon; brothers, Harry, William (Linda), Bernard (Mary Jane), David (Irene), Robert (Mary); sisters, Lorraine Nugent (Harry Hines), Goldie Bona (George), Mary Nearing, Shirley MacNeil (Tom), Marcella O’Brien, Doreen Pentecost; Aunt Blanche Dominic and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Lawrence was predeceased by a granddaughter Ceara. Arrangements were entrusted to H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne where visitation was held on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-8 p.m. with a Legion Service Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service was held at St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church on Monday, February 12, 2007 with Father Leo Maillet officiating. Burial was in the St. Thomas Cemetary. In lieu of flowers the family would request that memorial donations be made to the St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church Fund or to a charity of choice.
