February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued RENNEHAN, Chris Mitchell - 38, Saulnierville, passed away February 4, 2007, at home. Born in Yarmouth on March 18, 1968, he was a son of Gary and Diane Rennehan. Chris worked as a lobster fisherman for more than 18 years. He enjoyed playing solitaire on the computer, other card games, and many sports as well. His family will fondly remember him always saying, “Don't get too technical.” Chris was a very loving father and a friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Simone (Saulnier) Rennehan, Saulnierville; his sons, Devin and Jeremy, both at home; brothers, Troy, Banff, Alta.; Trevor (Holly), Ottawa, Ont.; and sister, Mandy Rennehan, Oakville, Ont. Visitation was held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, February 7 in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Thursday, February 8 in Evangel Assembly Church, Yarmouth, Pastor Oral Stewart officiated. Burial took place in Saulnierville Cemetery. Donations may be made to a trust fund that has been set up for Chris’ sons; you may make donations at Coastal Financial Credit Union or Saulnierville Credit Union. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued George Bruce Day - 51, Kentville, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 4, 2007, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Theresa (Buckley) Young, Kentville, and the late George Day. George was employed by Eastern Protein, and previously with Lafarge Contracting. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 6, Kentville. George enjoyed bingo, and a good game of crib with friends and family. He was an avid fan of TV and country music. George was known for his "big heart", and his family and friends were very important to him. Besides his mother, George is survived by his wife, Cathy (Parsons); daughters, Daisy and Melanie, at home; sisters, Jeannie (Al) Swinamer, Beatrice (Fred) Smith, both of Hamilton, Ont.; brothers, Norman (Josie) Swinamer, Kentville; Shawn (Darlene Richards) Young, Greenwood; several nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews. Besides his father, George was predeceased by his brother, Lester. There was no funeral by request. Visitation was held Wednesday, February 7, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Serenity Funeral Home & Crematorium, 1212 Parkway Dr., Port Williams. Cremation followed. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued SURETTE, Alma Julie – It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Alma Julie Surette (Tusket, Yarmouth Co.), said their goodbyes to her on Monday, February 5, 2007. Born in Springhaven, Yarmouth Co., on October 9, 1922, Alma was the daughter of the late John Frederick and Helen (Muise) Melanson. She was predeceased by husbands, Joseph Boudreau and Orel Surette; brothers, Lawrence, Vincent and Louis; sisters, Elizabeth, Emilienne, Lena, Isabelle and Rosalie; a step-son, Allan Surette. She is survived by her remaining brother, Gerald Melanson; her children, Gerry Boudreau, Bernard Boudreau (Myrtle), Mildred LeBlanc (Joe), Ron Boudreau (Dianne), Anne Morris (Mike), Joey Boudreau (Jenny), and Kevin Surette (Sandra), all living in the Yarmouth area; stepchildren, Brad Surette (Roberta), Vernon Surette, Audrey Doucette (Daniel), Pat Surette (Holly) and Austin Surette (Louise); 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and her numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Her lifetime hobby was quilting, and she enjoyed doing it right to the end. Visitation took place from 2-4, 7-9 Wednesday, with prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, February 8, from Saint Anne’s Catholic Church, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, Father Crépin Khonde officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued Steven Carl McCulley - 49, of Steam Mill, Kings County, passed away peacefully following a heroic battle with cancer on Monday, February 5, 2007 at home, surrounded by his family. Born in Kentville, he was a son of Helena Johnson, Kentville and Carl (Heather) McCulley, Baxter’s Harbour. He had been employed with Farmer John’s Herbs as a distributor of organic herbs. He enjoyed furniture restoration, gardening, yard sales, fellowship, visiting and most importantly, his family. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Hatfield; two daughters, Shannon (Darren) Adams, Truro; Stephanie McCulley, Salt Springs; two step-sons, Jeffrey (Camille) Fowler, Maitland; Neil Fowler (Blair), Vancouver; godchild and son, Jason, at home; four grandchildren, Emma, Kristen, Kyle and Paige; sister, Deborah (Clyde) Seeton, Truro; brother, Tim (Lisa) Day, Truro; half sister, Carla McCulley, Baxter’s Harbour; half brother, Reginald McCulley, Korea. Visitation was held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A memorial service followed by a reception was held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2007 at Valley Gate Vineyard Christian Fellowship, Kentville, Pastor Rik Berry officiated. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Burial will take place at a later date in the Baxter’s Harbour Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued STEELE, Marguerite (Rete) Gwendolyn (1904-2007) - After an extended and wondrous visit, enriching to all, Marguerite’s Father came on Monday afternoon, February 5, 2007 to take her home. She was enjoying some good quality moments and selected Scripture readings with her son at the time. Her family would be delighted if friends and relatives would honor Father and daughter by attending a final farewell to celebrate her remarkable and varied contributions to our lives during her time amongst us. B0S 1P0 Telephone: (902) 825-3537. Born in Digby, Nova Scotia on September 24, 1904, the daughter of Norman A. and Margaret E. Cummings, and the youngest of ten children, she moved to Middleton, Nova Scotia with her family at the age of eight where she resided for over ninety years after which time she moved to Calgary, AB to live with her son John and his wife Neleta. An outgoing person, she quickly integrated with other seniors in Calgary South through the auspices of the Calgary Carewest C3 Program. She was a member of the Baptist Church, Middleton, N.S. She is survived by son John (Neleta); grandsons Bren (Julie), Jay (Carol); great grandsons, Ryan and Tyler, Jaxon and Wilson; great-granddaughters, Kyrsten and Kate; nieces Gwendolyn Gardner (Thomas), Dorothy Vye; grand nieces, Carol Mitchell, Norma Gouther, Roberta Baker, Sandy Lincoln and Cathy Chaing; and grand nephews, Glenn Cummings (Donna) Don Lincoln (Susan), Jimmy and Bobby Gardner. Truly a Christian, Rete will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She loved her family and many friends “as herself”. But most of all she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We shall be fortunate indeed when her kind shall pass this way again.
February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued RYDER, Ruth Rhome - 88, Yarmouth, passed away February 6, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on March 29, 1918, in Waterville, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Harold and Alice (Wright) Pearse. She was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, and was active in the Anglican Church Women's Group. She was a registered nurse, having received her nursing degree at the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing. She nursed in hospitals in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and also in the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Surviving are her son, Richard A. Ryder, Yarmouth, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Alden; brothers, Alfred, John “Batton”, Geoffrey, and Richard; sisters, Kathleen Hemming, Hilda Baker, Clara Jeannette “Jean” Colquhoun. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home in Yarmouth. A memorial service was held Saturday, February 10 at 2 p.m. in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Father Robert Coote officiated. Burial will take place in St. Stephen Rural Cemetery, New Brunswick. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued BREWSTER, Edward David Windsor — 68, of Brooklyn, Queens County, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2007 in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born in Brooklyn, he was a son of the late Herbert and Lucretia (Meisner) Brewster. Edward worked for 40 years at Bowater Mersey Paper Company Limited as a machine tender. Since his retirement, he has spent most of his time with his grandchildren and was an active and long time member of the Brooklyn Marina. He loved volunteering his time to the Marina, running the canteen and enjoyed sending the boats off on their races. He is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters: Deborah (John) Herman, Kathy, and Lisa (Scott) Mauger, all of Brooklyn; grandchildren: Stephanie, Jessica, Joshua, Zackery and Nicholas; sister, Margaret (Dennis) Alexander of Windsor; brothers: Herbert of Liverpool, Alfred (Teresa) and Albert (Ellen), both of Brooklyn. He was predeceased by infant son, David; infant daughter, Donna Marie; sisters, Kathleen Lent, Mildred Evens; half-sister, Arnoldene Marts; brother, William. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Graveside funeral was held Sunday, Feb. 11 in Seaside Cemetery, Brooklyn; Rev. Arthur Nash officiated. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued JACQUARD, Anna – 77, Lower Wedgeport, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born May 1, 1929 in Wedgeport, she was a daughter of the late Pius and Elise (Surette) LeBlanc. Anna was a homemaker, and she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are her children, Joanne (Ernest) Pothier, Lower Wedgeport; Diane (Ronnie) Saulnier, Melbourne; André (Janine) Jacquard, Pinkney’s Point; grandchildren, Jeremy Pothier, Krista Pothier, Matthew Saulnier and Michael Saulnier. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Joshua, Alfred, Rémi, Walter and James; a sister, Mammie. Visitation took place from 2-4, 7-9 Thursday, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Wedgeport. The funeral mass was held at 2 PM, Friday, February 9 from Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Wedgeport, Father Crépin Khonde officiated. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued WARNER, Karl Berton - 81, Hebron, Yarmouth Co., passed away February 7, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on January 11, 1926, in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late Douglas and Elizabeth (Crowell) Warner. In his early days, Karl drove trucks and worked on the train. He was a Merchant Navy veteran and worked on the “Lady Patricia” delivering supplies during the war. He retired from working at the Hebron Post Office after 15 years as postmaster. He loved fishing and hunting, especially hunting rabbits. He really enjoyed working in his garden. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Serita Hebron; sons, James, Granville Ferry; William, Richard (Diane), Liverpool; Robert, Hebron; daughters, Cindy Christian, Yarmouth; Sally (Greg) Trefry, Wellington; Debra (Calvin) Boudreau, Little River Harbour; Judy (Norbert) Cormier, Memramcook, N.B.; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Walton, and sister-in-law, Josie. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. A memorial service was held Friday, February 9 at 2 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Chapel, Rev. A.D. “Bill” Newell officiated. Donations may be made to the Yarmouth Regional Hospital Dialysis Unit. February 4, 2007 to February 10, 2007 continued RALPH, Frederick Fallis - 79, of Kingston, NS, passed away, Wednesday, February 7, 2007 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS. Born in Neepawa, MB, he was a son of the late Clarence and Myrtle (Fallis) Ralph. Fred joined the R.C.A.F. in 1946 and served 33 years at bases in Canada, including a two year posting at C.J. S, London, England. He had a great love for music and enjoyed playing the Lowery Organ and also trumpet in the Greenwood Base Band, not to mention his love of singing and was a humorist and friend to many. Fred was a long standing member of the Shrine and Masonic fraternities; Valley Wing RCAF Association and Kingston Branch #98, Royal Canadian Legion. Fred leaves his wife Jackie (Piggott), and also, of whom he was very proud, sons; Rick, Toronto; Jim, Dartmouth and granddaughter, Kayla. He was predeceased by brother, Clarence and sister, Phyllis. Cremation has taken place and by request, there will be no service or visitation. In celebration of Fred’s life, a reception was held Saturday, February 10, 2007 at Valley Wing RCAFA, 904 Central Avenue, Greenwood. Donations in memory may be made to Valley Regional Hospital, 105 Exhibition Street, Kentville, NS B4N 5E3; Soldiers Memorial Hospital Foundation, P.O.
