January 14, 2007 to January 20, 2007 continued Justina Southby Rose ( Barnes ) Draper - passed away peacefully on January 19th 2007. Born in Longueil, Quebec, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Jessie ( Southby ) Barnes. Justina graduated from the Royal Victoria School Of Nursing in Montreal, Quebec. She was a world traveller and had seen the world from China to Puerto Rico to Northern Canada and Newfoundland and all parts in between. Justina will be remembered fondly and missed by all who knew her and loved her and who's lives she touched. Surviving: son Michael (Joanne) Draper, Ridge Road; daughter Mary ( Glen ) Kenny, Greenfield; sister Helen Thompson, Cobourg, Ontario. Missed by grandchildren Mitchell and Justin Draper and Joel and Grace Anne Kenny, nephews Peter and Tom Thompson, niece Gail Thompson, dear sister-in-law Mary (Gord) Alley and their families. Besides her parents, she was pre deceased by husband Dr. William Draper. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or flowers by request. A private family internment has taken place in the Gaspereau Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the W.A. Draper Scholarship Fund or to the charity of ones choice. There will be a time for reflection and fellowship at Melanson Community Hall, Melanson on February 3rd, 2007 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. All are invited to join the family. January 14, 2007 to January 20, 2007 continued PENNEY, Neil Stanley - 52, Riverdale Road, Weymouth, formerly of Yarmouth, passed away January 19, 2007, at home. Born in Yarmouth, he was the son of the late Stanley and Margaret (Deveau) Penney. At the time of his death he was employed with Riverdale Fur Farms, previously employed as a welder and 18 years with Marine Atlantic E.R.A. He enjoyed fishing, computers and reading history of Nova Scotia. He is survived by his wife, the former Cindy Stewart; daughters, Stephanie Penney, Yarmouth; Heidi Penney, at home; sisters, Ann (Lolly) Surette, Yarmouth; Jean Woodroof, Yarmouth; Lynn (Larry) Gavel, Pleasant Lake; Bernice (Hugh) Gould, Pleasant Valley; five grandchildren. He was predeceased by a stillborn son. Visitation was held Monday, January 22 from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where funeral was held Tuesday, January 23 at 2 p.m., Rev. Mike Cannell officiated. Interment in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the family. January 14, 2007 to January 20, 2007 continued POTHIER, James Issac – 91, Villa Acadienne, Meteghan, and formerly of Lower Wedgeport, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Friday, January 19, 2007 in the villa. Born September 18, 1915 in Wedgeport, he was a son of the late Andre and Nathalie (LeBlanc) Pothier. James worked as a bookkeeper in Toronto for a number of years, and he was a veteran of the second World War, having served with the Royal Canadian Army. Surviving are a god children, Marc Doucet and Cathy Wiegard. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Raphael Pothier, as well as sisters, Sister Amanda Pothier & Emilie Pothier. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 Monday, with prayers at 8 p.m., both in H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Wedeport. Funeral mass was held Tuesday, January 23, at 10 a.m. in Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Wedgeport, Msgr. Gerald LeBlanc officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. January 14, 2007 to January 20, 2007 continued SWAINE, Charles Edward “Carl” – 70, Moody’s Lane, Yarmouth, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2007, at home. Born January 6, 1937 in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late Frederick and Isabelle (Muise) Swaine. He worked as a carpenter, and served with the Royal Canadian Army. Surviving are a brother, Ronald Swaine, Winnipeg, Man.; sisters, Beatrice Dugas, Yarmouth; Shirley Duncan, Wainwright, Alta.; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his companion, Josephine LeFave; brothers, Bernard, Paul, John and Sonny Swaine; sisters, Barbara, in infancy; Pauline Murphy, Anna Brannen, Lennie Killam. Cremation has taken place and there was no visitation by request. A memorial service was held at 3 PM, Tuesday, January 23 from H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, Deacon Stephen Bourque officiated. Interment took place in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Yarmouth. January 14, 2007 to January 20, 2007 continued WINSHIP, Mary “Aileen” - Of South Ohio/Yarmouth, lived for 83 wonderful years, and went to be with the Lord on January 20, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer in Yarmouth Regional Health Centre. Born in St. Peters, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late John A. and Maude (Crewe) Jackson. She was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church, Zion WMS and Adult Sunday School class. She served approximately 30 years with Yarmouth Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She was much loved by her family and friends and made many wonderful loving and lasting relationships during her lifetime. Her strong faith in her Lord and Savior were evident throughout her life and especially during her sickness and passing. She is survived by her loving children, Jean (Bill) Scott, Yarmouth; John (Pat) Winship, Kingston, Ont.; Robert (Gloria) Winship, Sydney Mines, Cape Breton; grandchildren, Karen (Rick), Kim (Mark), Jeffery (Rosella), Andrew, Deanna (Brent) and Katy; great-grandchildren, Kirk, Megan and Kristen; brothers, Ernest (Mildred), Victoria, B.C.,; Eldridge, St. Peters; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur H.; sons, Kendall and Gary; sisters, Elsie Ross and Theresa L'Equyer and brother, Lindsay. The body rested in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Tuesday, January 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held Wednesday, January 24 at 2 p.m. in Zion United Baptist Church, Yarmouth, Rev. Brian Wallace officiated. January 14, 2007 to January 20, 2007 continued LANTZ, Grace Audrey — 72, of Liverpool, Queens County, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2007, in the QE II Health Sciences Centre, V.G. Site, Halifax, with her family by her side. Born in Pinehurst, she was a daughter of the late Carroll and Myrtle (Osborne) Silver. She was extensively involved with many charitable organizations and events that are to numerous to mention. She worked for Maritime Tel&Tel for a number of years. She was a member of Zion United Church and the U.C.W. Grace had a passion for antiques and volunteering. She is survived by daughters, Valerie of Liverpool, Vicki (Michelle Summer Fike) of Somerset, Mary Beth (Brian) McFadden of Greenwich, Conn.; grandchildren, Brooke and Teason. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth. Funeral Service was held Wednesday, Jan. 24, from Zion United Church, Liverpool; Rev. Joanne McFadden officiated. January 14, 2007 to January 20, 2007 continued Beatrice Verdun “Bea” Hayes - 90, formerly of Coldbrook, Kings County, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2007 in the Wolfville Nursing Home. Born in Lower Argyle, Yarmouth County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Margaret (Goodwin) Scott. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Bea had been employed with R. W. Phinney Limited and the former McDougall’s Drug Mart, both in Kentville. She was a member of the Coldbrook Baptist Church, the Coldbrook Seniors, the Coldbrook Women’s Institute, the Dorcas Society, the Kentville Travellettes and the Valley Square Dancers. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards and especially enjoyed spending time at the family cottage at Medford Beach. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert Hayes, Wolfville Elms; a daughter, June (Bill) Gates, Coldbrook; three sons, Garfield (Sandra), Markdale, Ontario; Robert “Bob” (Lois), Coldbrook; Peter (Lisa), Hillaton, Kings County; four sisters, Josephine (Merton) Nickerson, Pubnico; Nancy Wood, Bend, Oregon; Mary Lou Smith, Yarmouth; Sylvia Allen, Tucson, Arizona; 10 grandchildren, Mona, Brenda, Wendy, Holly, Robbie, Carl, Blake, David, Garfield and Sandrea; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Ivan, Malcolm, Carl and Don. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there will be no visitation by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Reverend Gary Countway officiated. Burial took place in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Coldbrook Baptist Church. January 14, 2007 to January 20, 2007 continued COTTREAU, Matthew Randall Richard – 20, Camrose, Alberta, and formerly of Yarmouth, died as a result of a motor vehicle accident, along with his girlfriend, Whitney Nelson, on Friday, January 19, 2007 near Fort McMurray, Alberta. Born January 19, 1987, he was a son of Richard Cottreau (Karen Durkee) and Elaine (Nickerson) Cottreau (Thomas Kelsey), all of Yarmouth. Matthew had been working with Shaw Pipe Protection in Camrose, Alberta since he moved there last July. He was an off-road vehicle enthusiast, and he enjoyed working with his hands. Besides his parents he is survived by his sisters, Michelle Cottreau (Andrew Spinney), Yarmouth and Amanda Cottreau (Chris Easy), Ottawa, Ont., along with a niece, Kyla Makarowski, and a nephew, Garrick Wheeler; maternal grandparents, Lendal and Bernadine Nickerson, Carleton; paternal grandparents, George and Dorothy Cottreau, Yarmouth; maternal great-grandmother, Angele LeBlanc, Nakile Home for Special Care, Argyle. He was predeceased by maternal great- grandparents, Arthur T. LeBlanc, Herbert and Ida Mae Nickerson; paternal great-grandparents, Amos and Ida Deveau, Clara and Norman Cottreau. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 Thursday, Janaury 25 with prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 26, from Saint Ambrose Cathedral, Albert Street, Yarmouth, Father John MacPherson officiated. Interment will take place in Carleton Cemetery. January 14, 2007 to January 20, 2007 continued Suzanne Mary Copperthwaite Sweeny– 84, passed away peacefully Jan. 20 in her home, North Range, with daughter Shelagh, son-in-law Abe and Tabbycat by her side. Sue will be fondly remembered as a loving, self sacrificing mother and grandmother who would do anything for her family and friends. Her kind words and honesty shaped the lives of everyone she knew. Sue was an artist and has left behind her view of the world for us all to treasure. She moved in May 2006 from Ottawa to become a Nova Scotian. She is survived by her twin brother Gerry, her three children Shelagh, Margot, Alastair and by her grandchildren Andrew, Malcolm, Ewan, Caroline, Trisha and Sophie and great-granddaughter Masha. The family sends sincere thanks to Dr. Paula Carmicheal, Dr. Virik and all the caring VON nurses that helped so much at home. The family plans a memorial service this summer at the lake she so loved and an art exhibition in her honour.
