January 7, 2007 to January 13, 2007 continued CRUPI, Agatha Pearl (Smith) — 98, of Sandwich, Mass., originally of Hunts Point, Queens County, passed away peacefully at home in Sandwich, Mass. on Saturday, January 13, 2007. Born Dec. 5, 1910 in Hunts Point, she was a daughter of the late James Henry Smith Sr. and Laura (Leslie) Smith. She was the devoted wife of the late Dominic Crupi of Watertown, Mass. Loving mother of Dominic Crupi (Candace) and Barbara Crupi of Sandwich, Mass., and caring grandmother of Katie (Sean Sullivan), Cara and Dominique Crupi. She is also survived by sisters Edna Smith and Margaret West of Hunts Point. She was predeceased by son, James S.; brothers: Carleton, Alton, James, Everett, George, Aubrey; sister, Vera Huskins. A family grave-side service will be held at Saint Patrick’s, Watertown, Mass. Donations in her memory may be made to the Hospice of Cape Cod.
January 7, 2007 to January 13, 2007 continued OICKLE, Herbert S. — 78, of Western Head, Queens County, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 13, 2007 with his family by his side. Born in Liverpool, he was a son of the late Stanley and Bessie (Whynot) Oickle. He loved to play bingo and go to dances. He is survived by his wife, the former Mae Himmelman; daughters: Charlotte (Tracy) Oickle, Verna (Douglas) Bent, both of Liverpool, Margaret Hyson of Western Head; step-daughters: Jane Lewis of Mahone Bay, Anne Welch of Bridgewater; step-sons, Kenny Foster of Springfield and Gerald Oickle of Caledonia; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren; sisters: Ethel of Head of Chezzetcook, Jessie Schrader, Dottie (Jack) Fredericks, Alice Oickle, all of Liverpool. He was predeceased by sisters, Gladys and Betty; brothers, Alexander and William. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Burial at a later date. Born in Eagle Head, Queens County, she was a daughter of the late Linwood and Evelyn (Leslie) Colp. She was an avid reader and loved to travel and cook. She was a former member of the A.C.W. and Ladies Auxiliary of Mersey Branch #38, Royal Canadian Legion, Liverpool. She loved her family and Coffin Island Lighthouse of which she was the former lightkeeper’s wife. She is survived by her husband, Ray; daughters: Linda (Fred) Balcom of Ottawa, Beverley (Bill) Matheson of Dartmouth, Patricia (Richard) Conrad of Brooklyn; step-daughter, Linda (Bob Salzman) of West Northfield; sons: Ernie (Sue Evans) of Bridgewater, Brian (Brenda) of Brooklyn; Jeff (Hannah Miller) of Beach Meadows. step-son John (Wanda) of Charleston; 12 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; brother, Clyde (Rosie), Eagle Head. She was predeceased by her first husband Russell McKinnon; daughter Sandra Wamboldt; grandson Michael Balcom; sister Shirley Himmelman; brother Albert “Abbie”. Funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 18 from Trinity Anglican Church; Rev. Arthur Nash officiated. Burial in St. John’s Anglican Cemetery, West Berlin. January 7, 2007 to January 13, 2007 continued Siscoe, Lawrence Adelbert – 92, Brunswick Street, Yarmouth, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born March 3, 1914 in Yarmouth, he was the son of the late Adelbert and Louise (Hubbard) Siscoe. Lawrence loved to garden and horses. Surviving are wife of 70 years, Anne Rose (Saulnier) Siscoe; children, Pauline, Montreal; Yvonne, Montreal; Victor (Arlyle), Middleboro; Marie (Evan), Wentworth; Michael (Vickie), Montreal; sisters, Margaret, Montreal; half-sister, Olive, Montreal; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Percy, Walter "Sam", and half-brother, John; sister, Edith. Visitation took place Tuesday, January 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with prayers at 8 p.m., both in H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth. Funeral mass was held Wednesday, January 17, at 11 a.m. in Saint Ambrose Cathedral, 43 Albert St., Yarmouth, Father John MacPherson officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. January 7, 2007 to January 13, 2007 continued MASON, Margaret Isabel (Lindsay) – 75, of Middleton passed away on January 13, 2007 at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton after a short battle with cancer. Born October 24, 1931 in Halifax to the late James and Elizabeth (Finch) Lindsay. She enjoyed music, singing and attending yard sales. She was a great supporter of the school band, swim team, pony club and St. Monica’s Parish. She is survived by daughters; Christine (Kevin) Duggan, Calgary, AB, Cheryl Oxner, Middleton; sons, Timothy and Roger and special grandchildren, David (Cara) Mason, Edmonton, AB, Tasha Oxner, Wolfville, Devrie Oxner, Martins River and Marc Duggan, Calgary, AB along with 5 other grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, James (Helen) Lindsay, Halifax and Uncle Robert (Florence) Finch, Hatchet Lake and many other relatives and friends. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Alexander Lindsay. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. A memorial service was held Saturday, January 20 at St. Monica’s Roman Catholic Church, Middleton. Father Gerald Saulnier officiated with a reception to follow in the parish hall. Private family interment will be in St. Monica’s Cemetery, Middleton. Family flowers only. January 7, 2007 to January 13, 2007 continued James Willis “Hud” Hamm - 77, South Alton, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2007 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in South Alton, he was a son of the late Eaton and Dolly (DeAdder) Hamm Medicraft. Hud lived in South Alton all his life, where he enjoyed working with his cattle on his hobby farm. He worked for the Department of Highways. Hud will be sadly missed by many family and friends. Surviving are sister, Ellen (Tom) Turbitt, Aldersville; half-sisters, Grace (Earl) Beach, South Alton; Ethel (William) Wellwood, Wirral, N.B., and Margaret LeBlanc, South Alton; half-brothers, Gerald (Iris), Medicraft and Ralph Medicraft all of South Alton; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, James is predeceased by brothers, Cecil Hamm and Baby Wilson; step-father, Russell Medicraft; half-brother, Everett in infancy. Visitation was held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, January 16, in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 5 Leverett Avenue, Kentville (902-678-2151), from where the funeral service was held 2 p.m., Wednesday. Rev. Gerald Zinck and Rev. Rick Small officiated. A private family burial was in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, followed by a reception in the funeral home. January 7, 2007 to January 13, 2007 continued HOOD, James Robert “Jim”, age 88, of Three Mile Plains, Hants County, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2007, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on April 10, 1918, in Mapleton (Garlands Crossing/Three Mile Plains) Hants County, Nova Scotia, he was a son of the late William and Elizabeth (Underwood) Hood. Jim served in the Second World War with the Third Medium Regiment, 87th Battery, R.C.A., serving in Canada, England, Normandy, Belgium, Holland and Germany, finishing his time of duty as Sergeant. He was employed with Fundy Gypsum for 45 years, finishing as General Foreman. Jim was a 60 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch 009, a long-time member of Windsor United Church, serving as elder for many years, and was an honorary member of the Brooklyn Jolly Seniors Club. Jim enjoyed bus trips, card games, bowling, watching his favourite teams, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs play. He also enjoying reading, family get-togethers, and a good teasing. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and family. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, the former Barbara Starratt MacDonald; daughter, Elizabeth (Mark) Pulsifer, Antigonish; stepsons, J. Robert (Paulette Rooney) MacDonald, High Prairie, Alberta; Brian (Linda) MacDonald, Bass River; Andrew MacDonald, Dartmouth; good friend, Doug Hiltz, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Duncan and Jillian Pulsifer, Beth (Todd Webb), Leah (Matt White), and Johnathan (Becky Dunlop) MacDonald; great-granddaughters, Sophie and Lucy White, and Gracie MacLaughlin; sister, Inez Hunter, Windsor; brother, Percy (Verna) Hood, Halifax; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth O’Brien; sisters, Helen Caldwell and a sister, Ellen in infancy; brother, Earle Hood. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor, where the Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch 009, held a legion service at 7 p.m. Tuesday. A memorial service was 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2007, in the Windsor United Church. The Rev. Bill Gibson officiated, assisted by Intern Kelly Burke-King. Burial was in the Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. January 7, 2007 to January 13, 2007 continued Peter Alan Thornley - was born August 5, 1918 in Blackburn, Lancashire, England. Died January 10, 2007. Proudly he achieved a B.Sc. (honours) in Chemical Engineering at London College, England. After emigrating to Canada, he became a Professional Engineer in Ontario and later in life earned a Bachelor of Education from Memorial University, Newfoundland. During his life, he worked in a lab for Roads Reconstruction, England; paved roads throughout Ontario; managed a reinforced concrete plant in Newfoundland; taught Chemistry to Newfoundland students at Trades College, St. John’s and finally devoted the last 30 years of his life to strawberry farming. He was still working the day he died. Thanks Dad, I’ll miss you.
