Keep Digby ER open
Letter to the Digby Courier
I believe that the Emergency Department of the Digby General Hospital should be open at all times and people’s lives should not be in jeopardy by having to travel another 30 kilometres to Annapolis or 100 kilometres to Yarmouth.
If the answer to the problem is to have nurse practitioners, let’s do it so we can have an emergency department that is open at all times. After all, the people of Digby deserve to know that when they have an emergency they do not have to worry about where to go for treatment. I would hope that there would be no opposition by the present doctors to have this done.
As for doctors coming to this area to practice and live here, we had a doctor who wanted to live here with his family and practice at the Digby General Hospital, but because of some disagreement with the present doctors he left and is now practicing in PEI. Our loss is their gain.
Since we need doctors here, we should do everything to encourage them to come and stay.
Don Passmore,
Digby.
