BENT, Rhoda Janette - 62, of South Williamston, NS, passed away January 7, 2007 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, NS. Born in Middleton, NS, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Blanche (Medicraft) Gillis. Rhoda worked in various clerical positions throughout Nova Scotia and Ontario, retiring from the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation, Middleton after 26 years of service. She enjoyed the outdoor life; canoeing, camping, four wheeling, was an avid snowmobiler and also loved socializing with her friends and neighbors. Rhoda is survived by her husband, David Bent, South Williamston; brother Harland (Joan) Gillis, Bridgetown; nieces, Jayne McMaster, Bermuda; Susan McMaster, Halifax; Sherri (Mark) O’Toole, Alberta; Lisa (Rob) North, New Hampshire; nephews, John McMaster, and Peter (Christa) McMaster, both of St. John, NB. Eugene Stanford Anthony, 87, of Mill Village, Queens County, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2007, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Mill Village, he was a son of the late Alvin and Annie (Lockwood) Anthony. He worked a number of years at the Bowater Mersey Paper Company, retiring in 1981 as a millwright. Eugene loved working on the family farm and gardening. He is survived by sons, Victor and Douglas, both at home. He was predeceased by his wife, Verna; sisters: Louise, Edith, Marion; brothers: Mark, Basil. Funeral service was held Sunday, Jan. 14, from Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool; Rev. Dr. Jorge Borres Sanson Jr. - of Kentville, Nova Scotia, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Cebu City, Philippines, he was the son of the late Jorge Sanson Sr. and Francisca Borres. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Southwestern University, Cebu, Philippines. He went on to train in surgery in New York (Mount Sinai Hospital, Montefiore Hospital, Veteran’s Administration Hospital). He later practiced General, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at the Lancaster Hospital, Saint John Regional Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Saint John, New Brunswick; Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, New Brunswick and Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville. Dr. Sanson was a dedicated physician who cared deeply about his patients and the staff he worked with. He was a kind, generous and gentle person. He is survived by his devoted wife, the former Audrey Nason; daughters, Joy Varona (Victor), Ottawa; Jessica Germain (Laurent), Vancouver; Janet Gannon (Patrick), Vancouver; Jean Johns (Joseph), Petawawa; Jackie Li (Gordon), Vancouver; grandchildren Philip and Danielle Gannon, Nicolas and Melanie Germain, Keana and Kurtis Li and Lorenzo Johns. He is also survived by his sister Eleanor Aznar (Matias IV); his brothers, Julian Sanson (Thelma), Sidronico Sanson (Maria) and numerous family members in the Philippines. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. There was no visitation, by family request. A memorial mass was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 15, 2007 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Kentville. Father Craig Christenson officiated. Francis Earl “Frank�? Allen - 69, of Kentville passed away Thursday, January 11, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late Earl and Ethel Allen. Having grown up in Yarmouth, Frank later moved to the Annapolis Valley, where he had been employed as a carpenter. He constructed a hobby workshop in his backyard where he enjoyed passing the time, working on various projects. He had a keen interest in fishing and golfing. He is survived by four sisters, Ruth Swim, Yarmouth; Doris Sharpe, Halifax; Phyllis Trefry, Yarmouth; Marion (Albert) King, Yarmouth; a brother, Arthur (Shirley), Ontario; two sisters-in-law, Jean Allen, Yarmouth and Maisie Allen, Ottawa; a brother-in-law, Percy Crosby, Yarmouth; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his companion, Joanne Alders, and is also survived by her children, Chris, Coldbrook; Stephen (Sheri), Pictou; Mark, Bridgetown. In addition to Joanne, he was also predeceased by a sister, Beatrice Crosby; two brothers, Henry and George. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there was no visitation by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Reverend John McNally officiated. Crowell, Ashley Allen – 95, Yarmouth, passed away January 12, 2007, in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax. Born on June 13, 1911 in Chegoggin, he was a son of the late Lamont and Jennie (Allen) Crowell. He was a member of Zion United Baptist Church and sang in the church choir for several years. He was a veteran of the Second World War and also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 61, Yarmouth. He was manager of the Yarmouth Credit Union and served on the board of directors for several years. He was the oldest veteran of the Yarmouth Fire Department Salvage Corp. He was the first person to have the H & R block office in Yarmouth. He enjoyed reading and was interested in electronics. He was a dedicated foster parent with World Vision. He had been a bee keeper. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by cousins. He was predeceased by his beloved stepmother, Annie Crowell, and sister, Norma. Visitation was held Monday, Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. until the funeral time at 11 a.m., both in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, Rev. Brian Wallace officiated. Burial took place in Chegoggin Cemetery.
