January 7, 2007 to January 13, 2007 WILLIAMS, Donald Frederick – 70, Wellington, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2007 in the Q. E. II Health Sciences Centre (VG Site), Halifax. Born September 26, 1936, he was a son of the late Albert and Elma Florence (Taylor) Williams. He was retired from Marine Atlantic, where he worked from 1956 to 1993. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Vivian (Comeau) Williams; a daughter, Anne Morton, and her husband, Wilbur; granddaughters, Erin Dawn and Jenna Rae. Also surviving are a sister, Anne Marie (Gerald) Tibbo, Peggy’s Cove; brothers, Roy (Betty) Williams, Wolfville; Alex (Gladys) Williams, Linwood; Arthur (Kathleen) Williams, Havre Boucher. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Taylor and Don. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 Wednesday, followed by the funeral at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 11, all in H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, Rev. A. D. “Bill� Newell officiated. Interment will take place at a later date. January 7, 2007 to January 13, 2007 CUSHING, David Roy – 58, Brunswick Street, Yarmouth, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2007 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born November 11, 1948, he was a son of the late Ensley Murton and Evangeline Mae (Doucette) Cushing. He worked as a locksmith in London, Ont., having also taught the trade there, and he enjoyed carpentry. Surviving are his common-law wife, Sharon Ann Hanf; daughters, Jade Cushing and Amber Cushing, both of London, Ont.; sisters, Carol Ann (Bill) Burgess and Veronica Fredericks, both of Yarmouth; a brother, William “Bill� Cushing, Yarmouth. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Ensley. The family received visitors from 7-9 Wednesday, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 11, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, Deacon Stephen Bourque officiated. Interment will take place at a later date. It was requested that there be family flowers only. January 7, 2007 to January 13, 2007 Freeman H. Lohnes, 63, of Port Medway, Queens County, passed away suddenly, Sunday, January 7, 2007. Born in East Berlin, Queens County, he was a son of the late Henry and Alice (Whynot) Lohnes. Freeman was a fisherman all his life and loved to hunt and sport fish. He loved Newfoundland and enjoyed vacationing there. He was an avid dart player and loved playing poker with the “boys�. He is survived by his companion, Teresa Smiley; daughter, Sherri Boudreau (Tim Wile) of Conquerall Mills; son, Randy of Port Medway; step-daughter, Stacy Smart of Halifax; step-son, Tyler Smart of Dartmouth; grandchildren, Kristin, Jenna and Andrew; sister, Violet (Ernie) Rhyno of Charleston; brothers: Lambert and Raymond, both of Ragged Harbour, Bobby (Brenda) of West Berlin. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Ann; sister, Lalia. Funeral service was held Wednesday, Jan. 10 in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool; Rev. Arthur Nash officiated. Burial in Holy Redeemer Anglican Cemetery, Port Medway. Donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society. January 7, 2007 to January 13, 2007 J. Ellis Colp, 89, of Hillsview Acres, Middlefield, formerly of Eagle Head, Queens County, passed away peacefully in the ALC Unit, Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg, on Monday, January 8, 2007. Born in Eagle Head, he was a son of the late Charles and Anna (Colp) Colp. Ellis was a former stevedore for Bowater Mersey Paper Company for a number of years and was a fisherman for over 40 years. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Norma Silver of Edmonton, AB; a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Cecelia Silver; sisters: Belle, Letie, Shirley and Muriel; brothers, Edgar and Maynard. Funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 13 from Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool; Rev. Arthur Nash officiated. Burial in St. John’s Anglican Cemetery, West Berlin. January 7, 2007 to January 13, 2007 Joan Marilyn Savory, 64, passed away in Roseway Hospital on Monday, January 8, 2007 with her family by her side. Born in Jordan Falls, she was a daughter of Lorna (Buchanan) and the late Milton Bower. Joan loved to knit with her sister Ree and attend her Christmas Pals Club. She was a member of the Naomi Lodge. Joan was famous in Shelburne for her cooking of fish and chips having worked at Crowell’s Canteen, and most recently Mr. Fish. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Besides her husband Clayton, she is survived by her mother, Lorna; son, Clayton Jr. (Debbie), Sable River; daughter, Charlotte (Neville Townsend) Savory; brother, Milton “Sonny� Bower; sisters, Rosemarie McCann, Ada (Mike) Lagendyk and Sandra Bower all of Shelburne; four grandchildren, Ashley, Nikki, Megan and Cole; great grandson, Shane. She was predeceased by a brother, Donald Bower. Funeral service was held on Thursday, January 11, 2007 from H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel with Rev. Sandra Fyfe officiating. Cremation will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Roseway Hospital Foundation Fund or charity of choice.
January 7, 2007 to January 13, 2007 Marion Emma Spicer Huntley (1915 – 2007) - passed away peacefully in her 92nd year, Monday, January 8, 2007 at Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville after a long illness. Born in Harbourville, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ella (Jones) Spicer. Marion is survived by her daughter Jean Huntley-Maynard (Stanmore), Harbourville, her grandson Andrew Huntley, Halifax, her sister Dorothy Russell, Cambridge, as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States. Besides her parents, Marion was predeceased by her husband Hazen, her son John, as well as her five brothers and two of her sisters. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation according to Marion’s wishes. No flowers please. A service to celebrate her life took place on Friday, January 12, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Berwick United Church. Rev. Don MacPherson officiated. A reception followed the service in the Berwick United Church hall. All her many friends were invited to this service and reception to honour the memory of this very special woman. Marion suffered from COPD, so the family would appreciate any donations in her memory made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia, 17 Alma Crescent, Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3N 3E6. January 7, 2007 to January 13, 2007 WILSON, Hazel “Jean� - It is with sadness that the family of Jean Wilson, 95, of Falmouth, Hants Co., announce her passing on Tuesday, January 9, 2007, in Windsor Elms Senior Citizens Home. Born in Sweets Corner, she was a daughter of the late Murray and Mabel (Wickwire) Dill. Jean was a graduate of the Provincial Normal College, Truro, and had taught school at various locations in the Hants, Kings and Halifax County school districts. She was a resident of Canning and Lower Sackville until 1973, when she and her husband moved to Falmouth to spend their retirement years. While in Falmouth, she was actively involved with the Falmouth United Baptist Church. Jean was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by daughters, Joanne Wilson, Suellen Wilson, both of Dartmouth; Trudy Wilson (Curtis Ross), Windsor Junction; grandchildren, Kim Porter, Dartmouth; Jill Hyatt, Winnipeg; great-granddaughter, Colbee Porter. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, Curtis S. Wilson (2001); son, Paul (1949); sister, Pauline Faulkner, and brother, Scott Dill. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family received visitors from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, January 11. A service to celebrate the life of Jean Wilson was held 2 p.m. Friday, January 12, in Falmouth United Baptist Church, Town Road, Falmouth, Rev. Wayne Merrill officiated. Interment was held in St. George’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Upper Falmouth, with reception being held back at Falmouth United Baptist Church Hall. Donations in memory of Jean were requested to be made to Windsor Elms Senior Citizens Home, 590 King St., Windsor, NS B0N 2T0.
